Billionaire David Geffen Faces Possible Legal Battle Over Money As Estranged Husband Makes Major Move

David Geffen could be heading into an intense legal battle after filing for divorce from David Andrew Armstrong.

According to reports, Armstrong has filed new legal documents suggesting he is preparing to fight for a share of the billionaire's fortune.

He has also requested spousal support from his estranged husband, which will likely be granted for a year, as California state law requires spousal support to be paid for half the length of the marriage.

David Geffen and David Armstrong were married for two years and are separating due to "irreconcilable differences," as cited in the billionaire's divorce petition.

The divorce drama between David Geffen and his estranged husband, David Andrew Armstrong, also known as "Donovan Michaels," appears to be heating up in the wake of recent filings.

After Geffen filed a petition to end their marriage,  Armstrong has now responded with a legal move that potentially sets the stage for a high-profile legal clash over the billionaire's assets.

According to TMZ, Armstrong's lawyer, Samantha Spector, checked a box that asks the judge to "Determine rights to community and quasi-community assets and debts" in the filing they made in response to the petition.

This implies that during the divorce process, the judge would determine who is entitled to the assets and debts acquired by the couple while living in a non-community property state and during the marriage.

With Geffen reportedly being worth an estimated $8.7 billion, there is no telling what properties would fall under this category, which leaves room for much to be argued over.

Armstrong has also requested spousal support from Geffen, although the exact amount remains unclear.

So far, this request doesn't appear to be a point of contention. In fact, Geffen indicated in his May 16 divorce filing that he is willing to provide spousal support and cover Armstrong's attorney fees.

However, whatever amount is ultimately agreed upon is unlikely to be particularly substantial. Under state law, spousal support is typically granted for half the length of the marriage.

Since the couple was only married for two years, Armstrong is expected to receive payments for about one year.

Concerning the reason for their split, Geffen penned in his petition that it was over irreconcilable differences.

He also noted that they have been separated since February 22, although this date wasn't corroborated in Armstrong's response.

Amid the ongoing divorce drama, Armstrong's adoptive father, Patrick, told the Daily Mail that he was left in the dark with regard to the marriage and the divorce.

"I don't know where he [David] is, or what the situation is, first I heard about it [was] one of my sons saw it on TV," Patrick told the outlet.

He added, "We kinda didn't even know about the marriage. But 50 years is a big age gap," Patrick, 68, added of the couple's huge age difference.

Speaking further about being unaware of his son's failed marriage to Geffen, Patrick revealed that he only learned about it through the internet.

"For some reason, I Googled his [my son's] name, and that's when it came up," he shared.

Patrick continued, "I never expected I could Google one of my kids' names and have them show up."

Aside from the remarks from Armstrong's adoptive father, the 32-year-old's alleged ex-girlfriend also offered her perspective on what she believes motivated him to marry the octogenarian billionaire in the first place.

"I just think he got what he was looking for," she said about Armstrong. "He cared a lot about the money, in my eyes. He always wanted to become rich and famous," she claimed.

"He wanted the name brand stuff — the cologne, the sunglasses, the shoes. He wanted to be a public figure. He had big dreams," she added.

Regarding the divorce, the anonymous woman said she never believed Geffen and Armstrong would last and was pleased the billionaire ended the marriage at this time.

"I guess I'm proud of David Geffen for divorcing him now and not leaving his entire [fortune] to him," she said.
