Tori Spelling & Estranged Husband's Debt Interest Reportedly Stands At $175K And Counting

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott have one more thing to figure out before going their separate ways!

The estranged couple is back in court to deal with the ghost of a crucial debt owed two years ago. The debt is not the only part of their worries as they also have a growing interest to clear.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's new case surfaces months after the actress transitioned from living in a lowly RV van to a lavish Calabasas property.

The actress and McDermott are currently grappling with a significant debt stemming from a court-ordered judgment dating back to their separation. 

City National Bank reportedly filed court documents on May 16, revealing that the couple has not yet paid off the judgment, which continues to accrue interest.

In a default judgment issued by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on May 22, 2017, the former couple were ordered to pay a total of $202,066.10, along with an additional $17,730.56. The latest filing indicates that they owe $219,796.66 on the judgment, complemented by $175,596.45 in accumulated interest. 

The origins of the debt trace back to a lawsuit filed by City National in December 2016, which accused the couple of breaching a contract related to a $400,000 loan taken out in 2012. 

The bank alleged that Spelling and McDermott defaulted on the loan by failing to make monthly payments, ultimately leading to a demand for the total amount owed to be settled immediately. 

Spelling was further cited for causing her checking account to overdraft by $17,000, contributing to the additional financial obligations mandated by the court. Per In Touch, the case reportedly had remained stagnant for several years until the recent court filing.

Spelling and McDermott ended their 17-year marriage in 2023, marking the conclusion of nearly two decades together and the journey of raising five children. 

McDermott publicly announced their separation with a heartfelt statement, expressing sadness about their decision to part ways. The actress filed for divorce in March 2024, citing "irreconcilable differences" and indicating that their separation had occurred on June 17, 2023. 

In her filing, she requested spousal support, the ability to deny the Canadian's support, and for him to cover her legal fees. She also sought sole physical custody of their children but was open to sharing legal custody with her ex.

Contrarily, her ex responded to the divorce in May 2024, opposing the actress's request for spousal support and asking instead for support to be granted to him. He also requested joint legal and physical custody of their children and disputed.

The actress reported their separation date, claiming it was July 7, 2023. Since that time, there has been little progress in the case, with the last legal filing taking place in March.

The TV star made headlines last year, as noted by The Blast, as she navigates life amid her divorce from McDermott. 

After downsizing from her typical celebrity lifestyle, Spelling moved her five children into a remote RV due to a mold issue at their marital home, which had been contributing to her kids' ongoing health problems. 

Following this challenging period, reports indicated last November that she and her children have now relocated to a $12,000-a-month mansion in Calabasas. The new residence reportedly includes five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a swimming pool.

Spelling's move marked a considerable upgrade from their previous living situation, which included a stint at a $100-a-night motel. Although the new home paled compared to the lavish $85 million manor in Holmby Hills where Spelling grew up, it represents a positive step forward for the family. 

Insiders have emphasized that her recent living arrangements were not due to animosity between her and the Canadian actor, but rather a necessary response to the mold issue they faced.

A month after the actress moved into the motel with her children, they were spotted transitioning into living in a Sunseeker RV. Spelling and her kids reportedly arrived as a pack of six at a Ventura County campground with Spelling behind the wheel.

The team set up their outdoor space with camping essentials, including chairs, a cooler, a stove, and a large rug for added comfort into what would become their home for a while.

Shortly after news of their new living situation emerged, Spelling revealed she had spent four days in the hospital. She shared a heartfelt photo of her arm connected to an IV, along with a tribute to her children, expressing her gratitude for their strength and resilience in difficult times.

While Spelling's RV move may have impressed many, especially due to the lifestyle change that came with it, one person remained unmoved.

Sources close to the actress's former husband suggested that her estranged husband does not believe she is experiencing financial difficulties. Instead, the Canadian actor suspected she might have downsized her living situation to elicit public sympathy.

Friends of Spelling share similar sentiments, questioning her motives as they assert she has plenty of money. Additionally, McDermott is reportedly frustrated with Spelling for refusing assistance from friends and feels their children should not have to live in such conditions. 

He was allegedly angry with her behavior, viewing it as immature, and believed she had numerous chances to make their marriage work. Instead, she reportedly portrayed a narrative that she was finished with him.
