'Mormon Wives’ Star Demi Engemann Triggered By Pregnancy Roulette As She Struggles With Infertility

Demi Engemann, one of the stars of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" is opening up about her fertility journey and the toll it's taking on her. And after playing a game of pregnancy roulette while on a MomTok girls' trip, fans got a clear look at just how tough it's been for her.

During the "Mormon Wives" pregnancy roulette, seen in episode 9 of season 2, two of the tests came back positive, with one of them being the one Demi pulled out of the bowl to read the results.

Demi opened up about the fact that she's still undergoing fertility treatments with the MomTok crew while on a girls' trip to Arizona.

"We kind of just started back at square one because we don't have answers," Demi revealed at dinner. "It is so taxing and emotionally draining. It's more how bad Maude wants a sibling and how bad I want that with someone that I'm in love with."

During a confessional, Demi revealed that her and husband Bret Engemann have been trying for a baby for four years, and that Bret he has a varicose vein that's "basically suffocating the sperm."  She also struggles with endometriosis which is adding to the fertility struggle.

In episode 9 of season 2, costar Layla Taylor decided she wants to play the pregnancy roulette game she's seen so many times on TikTok. The popular trend has each girl taking a pregnancy test and then putting them all in a bowl so no one knows which test belongs to who.

Problem one, Mayci Neeley is pregnant but hasn't told anyone. Problem two, Mikayla Matthews is also pregnant but hasn't told anyone. Problem three, Demi is struggling with infertility and has seen her share of negative tests throughout her heartbreaking journey.

Layla declared that she's late with her period, which could lead to even more confusion throughout this trend.

"This is a cruel prank because what if someone is and it's not me," Demi said. "This isn't traumatic at all. I don't cry every single time I take a test and get a negative."

So tension are already high before the girls start pulling tests out of the bowl to read the results out loud.

Mayci picks up a test and says it's negative. Then Mikayla reads one and it's positive. Everyone begins screaming realizing that someone in the room is actually pregnant. Layla reads another negative result. And then it's Demi's turn to grab a test and it's another positive.

Demi instantly starts to let her real, raw emotion out because she's been hoping to see her own positive pregnancy test for so long.

In a confessional, Demi reveals, "I can't even explain how deeply sad I'm feeling at this moment."

She said her first reaction was that she's pregnant, but then thinks, "There's no way. All you get is negative tests."

Mayci and Mikayla say nothing to the group about being the ones pregnant.

Mayci knew that Mikayla was pregnant, but Mikayla didn't know Mayci was, until they are back in their room discussing the pregnancy roulette experience. They then both decide to tell Demi they are the ones with the two positive pregnancy tests.

Demi congratulates them both and says she feels bad over her reaction.

In a confessional, she talks about being happy for her friends that they get to be pregnant together. She also wonders if it's ever going to happen for her.

Many viewers of the show took to social media to discuss the pregnancy roulette scene. TikTok content creator Caitlin Marshall, who goes by @bestiesbycaitlin on the app, shared the scene and her thoughts on it.

"This one moment with Demi was downright diabolical," Caitlin said in the start of her video. "I know a lot of us are having mixed feelings about Demi this season, but this moment in episode 9 when Layla decided that it would be a great idea to play a pregnancy test roulette game for content, which I've seen this before, and sometimes it can be fun and funny. But Demi makes it clear that this is triggering for her because she and Bret have been trying to get pregnant for four years and she has taken many a pregnancy test with very disappointing results."

That woman had no option to not play that game - that’s been put forward by her employer as a scene she must take part in! People saying ‘she could’ve not played’ are naive to think she had an option to not play! It’s part of her job and it’s sickening to me that the producers used her infertility for entertainment," one person shared.

Another added, "This is too cruel. I find it too toxic and it breaks my heart."
