There is yet another twist in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case, for which fellow rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty and is currently serving a 10-year jail term.

On Wednesday, legal representatives for Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, pushed for his release, citing new evidence that shows he never shot at Megan, real name Megan Pete.

The development comes as Lanez continues to recover after being stabbed multiple times in prison.

Kelsey Harris' Driver Claims Tory Lanez Didn't Shoot Megan Thee Stallion

Unite the People (UTP), a nonprofit that champions social justice and legal advocacy, held a press conference in which new evidence from a statement from the driver and bodyguard of Megan's former best friend, seemingly exonerated Lanez of the crimes for which he is serving a sentence.

During the press conference, UTP's lead legal consultant, Walter Roberts, shared Harris' driver, Bradley James' revelations.

Roberts said, "Not long ago, Unite the People was approached by a gentleman, Bradley James. Mr James informed us he was working as the bodyguard and driver for Ms. Kelsey Harris during Mr. Peterson's trial."

He continued, "As such, he was in close proximity and he had privy to conversations she was having with her husband and others. Mr. James informed us he was not under a no-disclosure agreement or a confidentiality agreement and was free to speak with Unite the People and that he was doing it because his conscience would not let him not speak and leave a man in prison for something he did not do."

Roberts added, "Mr. James informed Unite the People that he was witness to the conversation Mr. Harris had where she stated she had the gun, she fired it three times, Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down and the gun fired two more times. In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody, never even touched the gun, never fired the gun."

Roberts stressed that James' revelations aligned with those of a witness during the trial.

He said, "This statement aligns with the statement of the only non-party witness to the case, Mr. Sean Kelly, who at trial testified he saw two women fighting, two men break up the fight, one man grabbed the other one's arm, gunshots, camera from the passenger side."

Roberts continued, "The passenger side is where Ms. Harris was sitting. This further iterates that Mr. Peterson did not shoot Ms. Pete, did not shoot at Ms. Pete, or did not assault Ms. Pete."

The attorney went on to say that the recent revelations add to the many irregularities in the shooting case. He said, "It's just another irregularity in a list of irregularities in this case."

He added, "For example, there were three potential suspects in the car that night, and yet the only DNA sample was taken of Mr. Peterson, even though unknown DNA was found on the gun."

Roberts asked, "Why wasn't Ms. Harris's DNA taken, or was it taken and the information simply never given to the defence? Why wasn't the driver of the car, Mr. Jaequan Smith's DNA taken? Or was it taken and again simply not given to the defence?"

Megan Thee Stallion Refutes Claims That Kelsey Harris Shot Her

During a December 2023 Instagram Live, Megan Thee Stallion firmly denied claims that her former best friend, Kelsey Harris, was the one who shot her during the July 2020 incident.

This denial followed a legal declaration made by Tory Lanez's bodyguard, Jaquan Smith, who claimed he saw Harris with a gun in her hand during the altercation.

Despite Smith's assertion, he admitted he could not confirm who actually fired the weapon.

Megan addressed the speculation with visible frustration, emphasizing that she had already named Tory Lanez as the shooter, the same man who was convicted in 2022 and sentenced in 2023.

Megan also criticized attempts to cast doubt on her account, stating, per HipHopDX, "Kelsey didn't shoot me."

She also questioned why Lanez did not directly clear his name if he was truly innocent.

Megan suggested that renewed attempts to shift blame onto Harris are part of an ongoing effort to muddy the truth. "I know who shot me," she said, "and that's why he's in jail."

Tory Lanez, who chose not to testify during his trial, continues to serve his sentence after multiple appeals have been denied.

Tory Lanez Stabbed In Prison

The recent development surrounding Lanez's quest for freedom comes after he was brutally stabbed 14 times in prison on May 12, 2025, by 42-year-old inmate Santino Casio, a convicted murderer with a long history of violence.

Casio, already serving a life sentence, has since been placed in restricted housing as authorities investigate the incident and review prison security measures.

Meanwhile, Lanez, who suffered stab wounds to his back, torso, back of his head, and the left side of his face, continues his recovery.
