Weezer Bassist's Wife Jillian Lauren Officially Charged For April's Cop Shooting Incident

Weezer Bassist's wife Jillian Lauren Shriner has officially received her charges, but lower than expected.

Scott Shriner's wife was finally charged for getting involved in a firearm incident involving law enforcement agents last month. 

Jillian Lauren Shriner, was shot and arrested by Los Angeles police after she allegedly pointed a handgun at police officers during a search for a hit-and-run suspect.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney officially filed felony charges against her for the discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and felony assault with a semiautomatic handgun.

Initially, she faced an even more severe accusation: attempted murder of a peace officer. The incident occurred on April 8 when police searched her Eagle Rock neighborhood for a suspect.

Jillian Lauren emerged from her home with a pistol, leading to a confrontation captured on body cam and security footage.

As officers, who were behind a wooden fence, shouted at her to drop the weapon, she allegedly raised her arm and fired at them, prompting officers to return fire and strike her in the shoulder.

Despite the violent nature of the encounter, when she was later in contact with law enforcement, it appeared she was unaware that she had pointed a firearm at the police. 

She reportedly called to report a prowler in her area and later surrendered to law enforcement after they arrived. Jillian Lauren was then arrested after receiving medical treatment for her injury.

TMZ reported that prosecutors are now pursuing a potential sentence of up to 19 years in prison if she is convicted. Fortunately, it seems Jillian Lauren is recovering well from her injury, as noted by her husband shortly after the incident.

The Blast shared that Jillian Lauren made headlines when she announced that she is undergoing cancer treatment this year. In a lighthearted March 4th Instagram post from her hospital bed, she expressed gratitude towards her care team.

"I'd like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital. As if they all hadn't been through enough with the fires right next door!" she penned down.

The writer also humorously acknowledged her diagnosis, referring to it as "a little bit of the C word." She praised the incredible oncology team that helped her through a complicated operation.

Married to Scott since 2005, the couple has two children and faced significant challenges on their journey to parenthood, including struggles with infertility. They eventually found fulfillment through adoption, welcoming their son Tariku from Ethiopia.

The drama reportedly began earlier in April when a suspect, after a three-car crash on the 134 Freeway, ran into the couple's neighborhood, engaging in bizarre behavior to evade capture.

Amid the chaos, Jillian Lauren reportedly felt compelled to defend her home from the intruder. Police later retrieved a 9mm handgun from their residence.

In a statement addressing the arrest, LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish provided insights from their preliminary investigation into the serious incident involving the author.

The investigation reportedly uncovered key evidence, including a shell casing and video footage that illustrated the suspect's (Jillian Lauren) failure to comply with police commands to disarm.

Reports indicated that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers, leading to her booking on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer. Additionally, dramatic audio recordings from the scene reveal the situation's urgency.

Officers on the scene reportedly alerted dispatch about Jillian Lauren's armed status and categorized her actions as assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.
