It’s been 85 years since the first McDonald’s opened its doors in San Bernardino, California, and in honor of the milestone, VegasInsider decided to do some digital digging.

Using Google Trends data from the past year, they uncovered the most searched-for McDonald’s menu items in every U.S. state, including both current offerings and long-gone fan favorites.

The verdict? America still can’t get enough of the McDonald's classics.

Battle Of The Buns: Big Mac Vs. Happy Meal

According to VegasInsider, when it comes to items that are still available on the menu, the iconic Big Mac is leading overall searches.

The iconic double-decker burger, with its two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and signature “special sauce," was the most searched McDonald’s item in 46 out of 50 states over the past 12 months.

However, four states, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Texas, had other priorities. Instead of the Big Mac, residents there were more interested in the Happy Meal. The pint-sized combo meal, complete with a toy, continues to hold a nostalgic and practical appeal, especially for families.

Both the Big Mac and Happy Meal averaged a massive 110,000 searches per month in the U.S. But they weren’t the only menu items getting love. McDonald’s French Fries racked up an average of 74,000 monthly searches, followed by McGriddles (60,500) and McFlurries (49,500).

The People Have Spoken, And They Want The Snack Wrap Back

When it comes to discontinued menu items, one thing is clear. America really wants the Snack Wrap back. In fact, it was the most searched-for discontinued item in 48 states, pulling in over 33,000 searches per month on average.

Originally launched in 2006, the Snack Wrap featured crispy or grilled chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese, and sauce wrapped in a tortilla. It was quietly phased out starting in 2016 and fully discontinued in 2020. But fans haven’t let go, and a cryptic McDonald’s tweet recently teased that it may be making a comeback sometime in 2025.

Arch Deluxe, Chicken Selects, And Other McDonald’s Throwbacks Still Have A Hold On Fans

Not every state followed the Snack Wrap trend.

In Idaho, the top-searched discontinued item was the Arch Deluxe, while Delaware and Rhode Island were all about the Chicken Selects. The Arch Deluxe, which debuted in 1996, was once positioned as a grown-up burger with Dijonnaise, bacon, and a potato flour bun but was discontinued by 2000.

Chicken Selects, a fancier take on chicken tenders, first launched in 1998 and were on and off the menu until 2013. Like the Snack Wrap, there are whispers they could return soon.

Other discontinued faves still pulling serious search numbers include the Big N’ Tasty, the Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfait, and the McDLT, each generating over 8,000 monthly searches. These blasts from the past prove that when McDonald’s takes something off the menu, fans don’t forget.
