'Mormon Wives' Star Jessi Ngatikaura Shares Why She Left The Mormon Church

As fans gear up for an explosive new season of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives," the MomTok crew has been spilling some of their tea and back stories.

Jessi Ngatikaura recently shared some reasons why she left the Mormon church, as well as a little about season 2 of the hit Hulu reality show.

There's no hush-hush going on when it comes to the MomTok crew. They're openly speaking their minds and truths uncensored.

In anticipation for the new season that's about to be released on Hulu on Thursday, May 15, many of the girls are spilling their tea. One person who's been opening up about her back story and what fans can expect from the second season is Jessi.

Jessi recently talked about the reasons she left the Mormon church during an appearance on "Live with Kelly and Mark," as well as what made her a "bad Mormon," some of the rules of the church, and the dirty soda craze.

During her interview with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Jessi explained some of the rules of the church, which led to why she ended up stepping away from the religion.

"I represent an ex-Mormon on the show, which I love because every religion has people who are super devout and people who have left, and I love that anyone in any religion can relate," Jessi explained.

When asked why she left, she explained that it was "more of the culture."

"It can be really toxic where we live and I just felt like it wasn't for me," she said. "And half of my family had already left, so when I was in my mid-twenties, I started stepping away."

When Consuelos asked about drinking alcohol, Jessi said, "That's a big no-no, but I do." She also shared some other no-no's in the religion, and some might shock people.

"I'm a bad Mormon. I'm an ex-Mo," she said. "But yeah, no smoking, no drinking, no sex before marriage, no tank tops. There's a lot of weird ones."

She also said, "no tattoos," and she has some.

Consuelos asked what the Mormons do instead of drinking alcohol and dirty soda entered the chat.

"It's like putting coffee creamer in your soda and then adding all the sugar, all the flavors, like that's like the morning coffee. At like 8 a.m., people are like 32-ounce sodas," she explained. "And it's so normal to us. Like, we grew up on it. It's crazy."

She further explained that Mormons are not supposed to have coffee or tea but are allowed to have soda and Red Bull.

"That's why I left, these rules make no sense," she said.

The dirty soda craze has really taken off thanks to "Mormon Wives." Popular dirty soda shop Swig has been popping up all over the place. They even will sometimes feature the MomTok crews' favorite orders.

When Ripa asked Jessi about "other soda concoctions," Jessi shared more about dirty soda, explaining that it's all about the coffee creamer.

"It's ice, soda, creamer, syrups, you can do whipped cream. I've seen that," Jessi explained. When Ripa said they were "hopped up on sugar," Jessi replied, "Oh yeah, that's how we keep going. That's why we're so crazy."

During an interview with First for Women, Jessi talked a little about season 2 of the hit reality show.

"During the first season, no one knew who we were or what we were doing. So, when we were out filming in a restaurant or whatever, no one really cared. Season 2 was a different experience because everyone knew who we were, and people were excited when we were out," she told First for Women. "So it was kind of a shock, because overnight, people knew about the show and actually cared about what we were doing."

She also shared that the "ups and downs" seen in season 1 continued into the second season.

"There are some friendships that I think people will be surprised to see break apart, and other people get closer," she said. "I think that fame went specifically to one person's head and the audience will see that as time goes on."

Season 2 of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" will be released on Thursday, May 15 on Hulu. Season 1 is currently streaming on Hulu.
