Tory Lanez's incarceration stems from a July 12, 2020, incident in which he shot fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

He was initially arrested for carrying a concealed firearm after a party in the Hollywood Hills, but later accused by Megan of intentionally shooting her in the feet while she was walking away. She publicly named him as the shooter in August 2020.

Lanez denied the allegations in his 2020 album "Daystar," sparking backlash and a media firestorm. He was formally charged in October 2020 with multiple felonies, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered weapon. A protective order was issued to keep him away from Megan.

In April 2022, Lanez violated the order and was briefly re-arrested. On December 23, 2022, he was found guilty on all counts and taken into custody. He was sentenced on August 8, 2023.

The legal battle continues after the sentencing. Lanez is appealing his conviction, while Megan has secured a restraining order extended to 2030.

She has also filed a defamation lawsuit against Lanez and blogger Milagro "Gramz" Cooper for allegedly spreading false information. Lanez now faces a civil contempt motion for inappropriate conduct during a deposition in the ongoing lawsuit.
