Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence On Alleged Family Feud Between Mom Tish and Dad Billy Ray

Singer Miley Cyrus is finally stating where she stands in the alleged feud between her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and her mother, Tish Cyrus.

The rumored beef has spilled over into headlines, where, most recently, Tish was accused of unfollowing her daughter on Instagram.

On Saturday, May 10, Miley took to her Instagram Stories in order to address the feud between her and her family.

“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us,” she wrote. “She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.”

The “Wrecking Ball” singer also gave fans insight into her relationship with her father after he posted a photo of the two alongside his son, Braison, and Miley’s boyfriend, Maxx Morando.

“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years,” Miley told her fans. “Now, in my 30s, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.”

“Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family,” she added.

After Billy Ray hinted that he had reconciled with his daughter on Instagram, social media users were quick to notice that Tish unfollowed her daughter. However, according to her, the unfollow was unintentional.

On Wednesday, she wrote, “I didn’t” in an Instagram comment, adding, “Idk what happened lol.”

In another comment, she emphasized that she had “no idea how that happened” but had followed her daughter on the platform yet again.

This is the first time that Miley has addressed the feud. Tish and Billy Ray got married in 1993, shortly before he adopted her children from a previous relationship: Trace and Brandi. The couple welcomed Miley, Braison, and Noah before they went their separate ways in 2022.

Following the divorce, it appeared that there was more trouble for the Cyrus family when Tish began dating “Prison Break” actor Dominic Purcell. According to speculation, Purcell had been dating Tish’s daughter Noah before their relationship turned romantic. They tied the knot in August 2023 at Miley’s Malibu home. Noah was notably not in attendance.

That same year, Miley told Vogue that she was glad to see her mom “happy and in love” and that being the maid of honor at her wedding was a “very emotional” moment for her.

“Dom and my mom share the sweetest, most genuine love. It’s almost like it’s for the first time, which is so fitting for my mom, who is such a young soul. Since they met, they both started aging in reverse,” she said at the time.

“Somehow, my mom has gotten even more beautiful,” she continued. “The day was as special and magical as they are. To stand beside my mother and give her away to Dom is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Despite rumors that Miley has had a falling out with her mother, it appears that the two have always been close. In 2023, she told the publication that Tish has spent most of her life supporting her daughters “behind the scenes.”

“She was always the one getting me ready for big days, starting with cheerleading competitions, then eventually on sets or backstage before a performance,” she explained. “She has never stopped celebrating me and has been so supportive of my decisions. I feel honored to be that person for her, now that I’m older.”

The two are so close that they walked the red carpet together at the Grammys and even attended the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special together in 2025.

Miley’s comments about her family appeared only one day after she released her latest single, “More To Lose,” on May 9. The song is the fourth single to be released from her upcoming album, “Something Beautiful,” which is scheduled for release on May 30.
