The NBA playoffs can bring many surprises, and Steph Curry experienced the worst of them all during the Golden State Warriors' matchup versus the Minnesota Timberwolves on May 6.

However, Curry's unfortunate injury ended up being a blessing in disguise for some others.

In an exclusive statement sent to The Blast, Fanatics Sportsbook, the online gambling casino that launched in January 2023, revealed the company had a record-setting night.

Thanks to its Fair Play Policy, the company offered bettors over $500,000 in refunds following Steph Curry's hamstring injury. But that's not all. The policy, which Fanatics extended to the NBA playoffs, also helped one lucky bettor turn a four-leg parlay into $220,000.

A Fanatics spokesperson told The Blast that due to Curry's "untimely injury" during last night's contest against Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves, their sportsbook returned over $500,000 in bets, thanks to their app's Fair Play Policy.

The policy, which once only covered injuries in a competition's first quarter, was recently extended to the NBA playoffs and rewards bettors with full refunds or payouts for all player props impacted by injuries during a game's first half.

"If a player unexpectedly exits a game early, Fanatics Sportsbook pays out the Under as a winner and refunds any Over single player prop bets," the statement read. "If the player is part of a customer’s parlay, Fanatics Sportsbook will click the Under as a winner and void the parlay leg for any Overs and keep the parlay active with recalculated odds."

But Fanatics has more to be proud of than the $500,000 in refunds. The company expressed its excitement with The Blast over another fortunate bettor who also found themselves on the winning end of yesterday's unfortunate events.

The customer created a four-leg parlay, featuring specific props like Milan versus Barcelona and the Golden State Warriors' moneyline.

The bet's revised odds were +9240, making their win the largest ever saved by Fanatics' Fair Play Policy.

These massive payouts aren’t the first time Fanatics has made headlines for turning player injuries into winning tickets.

According to Mass Live, in early May 2025, the company paid out or refunded more than $250,000 in bets after the Boston Celtics lost Kristaps Porzingis to injury during their game against Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks.

The Fair Play Policy voided Porzingis props, causing another bettor to win a five-leg parlay with +2375 odds, turning a $1,000 wager into more than $24,000 in winnings.

Steph Curry To Miss Game 2 In NBA Playoffs

After being ruled out of the Warriors' first matchup against the Timberwolves due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain, NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that the NBA champion would also miss his team's second round.

The ESPN reporter noted that Curry's injury is the first muscle strain of his career before sharing that he'd be forced to sit out for at least a week.

"An exact return will be based on how their All-NBA guard responds to rehab with his first muscle strain," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Warriors player Jimmy Butler, who joined Golden State after a messy fallout with the Miami Heat in the middle of the season, commented on the news and expressed his concerns, saying, “We want Steph back, I’ll tell you that."

“It’s hard playing without that man," he continued.

Curry and Porzingis aren't the only NBA players who have suffered an injury during the playoffs.

Damian Lillard, Ja Morant, Russell Westbrook, and Butler are among the others who also saw first-half injuries.

With Fanatics' Fair Play Policy, customers have received more than $2 million in payouts.

Overall, thanks to the generous policy, Fanatics bettors have enjoyed over $8 million in payouts since the beginning of the football season in the fall of 2024.
