One of the men responsible for robbing Kim Kardashian in 2016 is singing a different tune as the hammer of justice edges closer.
Yunice Abbas, a reported "Grandpa Robbers" member, recently took back his initial comments about feeling no remorse for the Paris robbery. His new stance comes four years after proudly flaunting his involvement in the infamous heist in a memoir.
Kim Kardashian is scheduled to share her side of the story in court next month, but the trial began in full swing on Monday, April 28. The robbers made off with $10 million in jewels and left a lasting scar on the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" alum's heart.
One Of The Kim Kardashian Paris Robbery Suspects Plays The Victim Card

During his testimony, Abbas begged for leniency while expressing remorse about his involvement in Kim's 2016 Paris robbery. He noted the media coverage of the crime made him question his actions, confessing:
"Before I didn't. But this time, I do regret what I did… It opened my eyes. TVs were talking about it all day, and it led me to ask myself some questions."
He doubled down on his regrets when asked about flaunting his crimes in the 2021 book memoir "I Held Up Kim Kardashian." Abbas stressed that he did not feel proud about what he did, despite the book's title implying otherwise.
Abbas went on to play the victim card, claiming that spending over a decade in and out of jail had done a number on him. He argued that he turned to a life of crime because he never had a good male role model.
"The longer the sentences, the more you get used to it," Abbas told the court, per BBC.
Yunis Abbas Was Initially Unremorseful About His Actions

Abbas confirmed he had spent 17 years in and out of jail, explaining to the court that he understood his life choices were wrong.
"Yes, my crimes negatively impacted my family. When I was out of jail, I did what I could for my children," he noted, doubling down on his life being shaped by fellow criminals without proper male guidance.
"I didn't know what to do," Abbas lamented. His new remorseful stance differed significantly from his 2022 comments about the robbery. "Since she was throwing money away, I was there to collect it, and that was that," he boldly declared, adding:
"Guilty? No, I don't care. I don't care. They should be a little less showy toward people who can't afford it."
Authorities reportedly caught Abbas because he left his DNA at the scene after tying up the hotel's concierge. The employee made their grievances against Abbas known in court, with their lawyer not buying his portrayal of himself as a criminal with a kind heart.
The legal rep stressed that the receptionist suffered PTSD from the 2016 incident, which Abbas willingly participated in.
Kardashian To Take The Witness Stand During Trial

Abbas is one of the 12 suspects accused of kidnapping and robbing Kim at gunpoint nine years ago in France. The Blast reported that only ten of these men are standing trial for the crime because one of the culprits passed away while the other was excused for having advanced dementia.
The trial into the robbery was expected to last three weeks, with Kim serving as a key witness in the case. She shall take the stand to share her side of the story of May 13, and her testimony is sure to follow her past comments about the crime.
The SKKN By Kim founder previously revealed the men broke into her hotel suite disguised as police officers. They allegedly pushed her onto the bed, tied her up with plastic cables, and taped her hands before blindfolding her at gunpoint. Then they proceeded to place her in a bathtub and steal $10 million in jewels.
The Robbery Suspects Are Part Of A Group Called 'Grandpa Robbers'

Abbas and his nine accomplices were reportedly part of a group called the "Grandpa Robbers." They got their name from being a team of thieves in their golden years, aged 60 to 80. Five of these men were slammed for participating directly in the heist and were charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.
Meanwhile, the others were accused of being accessories to the crime. Abbas and another cohort, Aomar Ait Khedache, have admitted their guilt in the robbery, with Abbas noting he served as the hotel lobby lookout during the heist.
Following his arrest, he reportedly spent 22 months behind bars before being released from prison due to health reasons linked to his heart. The incident remains a morbid tale for Kim, who previously told cops she feared for her life and body.
She noted she suspected the men would rape her after taking her valuables, but fortunately, her worries never came true. The traumatic moment also came up in March during an episode of "The Kardashians," with Kim noting her ex-husband predicted the robbery.
Kanye 'Ye' West Warned Kim Kardashian Before The Paris Incident

While talking to her sister, Khloé Kardashian, Kim recalled her ex, Kanye "Ye" West, predicting the unfortunate Paris robbery. She noted she had flaunted the two engagement rings he had gifted her on social media, and he immediately called her out on the dangerous action, saying:
"Kanye saw it, and he goes, 'Don't you ever wear both of your rings at the same time. Are you looking to get robbed?'"
Thanks to his warning, Kim dropped the 15-carat diamond ring he proposed with in October 2013, and it wasn't stolen when her hotel suite was robbed. She told Khloé the ring would remain a significant part of her family, declaring:
"That one I'm going to give to Northie because she was with me when I got engaged. And she held it after, and I took a photo. She was just a few months old."
