In a surprising social media post, President Donald J. Trump defended the NFL hopeful Shedeur Sanders after he had fallen from the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Since the draft began on Thursday, April 24, eyes have been following Sanders' journey since many believed the New York Giants or Pittsburgh Steelers would've selected the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback with picks 21 or 25.
However, that's been the opposite of Sanders' story, and, in fact, he remains undrafted heading into the final rounds, which will occur on Saturday, April 26.
Shedeur Sanders' being left on the board has shocked many, including the President of the United States, and he had to make his stance on the matter known.

After being passed up by the Giants and Steelers, many social media users, professional athletes, and sports pundits began sharing their thoughts about the snub online. But they weren't the only ones questioning the decision.
Trump also chimed in with a surprising defense of the 23-year-old, who's also the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders, on his Truth Social account.
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote before praising Sanders and his father for their ability on the field.
“Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck, Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father," he finished.

Before the draft began, Sanders was predicted to be a first-round, top-10 pick. However, fate had different plans for him.
In round two, the Cleveland Browns skipped over Sanders after having picks 33 and 36. The New Orleans Saints also opted not to choose Sanders, and instead went with the 25-year-old Tyler Shough.
Sanders was similarly disappointed in the third round, as the Seattle Seahawks passed on him with the 92nd overall pick in favor of Jalen Milroe from the University of Alabama.
Later, the Browns stuck to their guns and, with the 94th overall pick, selected Dillon Gabrial from Oregon.
Football fans worldwide have shared their confusion regarding the teams' selections, with many assuming something occurred behind the scenes that affected the young athlete's draft stock.
"Shedeur getting stamped by Trump got me in shambles because now you know for a fact that was some nasty work," someone wrote.
Vic Lombardi also chimed in and admitted he was "blown away" by Sanders' availability on the board.
"The tape doesn't lie," he wrote. "Dude is a baller. He WILL play on Sundays. But how does he go from the presumptive #1 overall pick in November to a free fall in April?"
He continued, "Is it something he said or did? The answer, like it or not, is yes."
Stephen A. Smith, host of the popular sports show "First Take," agreed and called the situation "a disgrace."
"How the h-ll is [Shedeur Sanders] not off the board [and] not drafted yet," he wrote. "Y'all still think this doesn't have anything to do with teams hating on [his dad, Deion]. This kid is a first-rounder. In a different way, this is [like Colin Kaepernick] all over again. Being kept out. A d-mn disgrace. I don't care what anyone says!"

Fans also defended the young adult, who was embarrassed on day two of the draft during his Twitch livestream when someone prank-called him and pretended to be an NFL team owner.
In the viral clip, Sanders' family and friends gathered around him as he answered a burner phone that was supposed to be reserved only for NFL personnel.
“Good, I’ve been waiting on you,” Sanders said on the phone after the caller asked how he was doing. However, things turned sour shortly after.
Eventually, the caller told the NFL hopeful that he’d “have to wait a little longer,” prompting Sanders to say, "I don't know what that was."
“Nobody’s got this number, though. Nobody. This is a private number," he finished.

After the video went viral, netizens posted about how upset they were that Sanders had to endure such a humiliating moment during one of the biggest times in his life.
"I don't care who it is on the receiving end, this is not funny or cool to do to someone [who's] hoping to and expecting to get drafted," a user wrote. "Sh-tty [and] immature prank."
"People can be so cruel, man," another posted.
"Mocking ambition with a fake call is just petty," a third netizen shared. "Someone grinding for success doesn't need cheap tricks wasting their time."
