In honor of the 15th anniversary of SkyJump, Skylar Dice, Senior Vice President and General Manager of The STRAT, experienced his first jump with many co-workers watching and cheering him on. The Blast was also there to witness the experience from suiting up to feet on the ground.

If you’ve ever thought about trying out skydiving or bungee jumping but just can’t bring yourself to do it, this might be the experience that can help get you there. 

The iconic free-fall experience at The STRAT Hotel, Casino, & Tower is the ultimate in adrenaline rushes. SkyJump holds a Guinness World Record as the highest commercial decelerator descent facility. There have been more than 400,000 people who have taken the exciting plunge since it opened on April 20, 2010. 

Daring jumpers get an amazing look at the Strip as they zoom toward the landing pad at speeds that exceed 40 mph. Many celebrities have taken the leap, including Flavor Flav, Nina Dobrev, Andy Dick, Jenna Bush, Jay Culter, and the list goes on.

The STRAT Is Giving Back In Honor Of SkyJump's Anniversary

In honor of the 15th anniversary, The STRAT donated all proceeds from April 18th SkyJumps to local charities.

Half of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Nevada, which creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, and the other half will support Casa de Luz, a local nonprofit that serves families in underserved Las Vegas communities. 

In addition to that, Dice’s jump from the top of the Tower also kicked off a four-day anniversary celebration from Monday, April 21 through Thursday, April 24.

Skylar Dice Shares His First SkyJump Experience

Dice has been the Senior Vice President and General Manager of The STRAT for the past four years and with Golden Entertainment for 10 years.

He always planned on making his first SkyJump on a special occasion, so the time for him to take the leap finally arrived.

"The 15th anniversary felt like the perfect milestone, as exhilarating as the leap itself," Dice told The Blast exclusively. "Even more meaningful, all proceeds from the day's jumps went to charity, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Casa de Luz."

'It Was Better Than I Expected'

So, did Dice have any second thoughts while gearing up and heading up to the ledge?

"I was feeling great until the door out to the jumping ledge opened," he shared. "At that moment, I started to second-guess my decision."

But he went through with it and said, "it was better than I expected."

"I was fully committed all the way through, although I did have a few second thoughts once I got out on the ledge. I didn't want to look like I was chickening out, so I made it a point to confidently jump on their cue," he explained. "I was pretty nervous about stepping off the ledge, but after a second or two, the adrenaline kicked in and I was able to really enjoy the ride."

Dice had a team supporting his jump the whole way, including staff and family. He also added that the crew was "amazing" and he felt great about the professionalism of the SkyJump crew.

"SkyJump is one of the most iconic attractions in Las Vegas," he said. "And it's an experience everyone should try at least once, alongside our other thrill rides."
