Alijah's car crash came amid his impressive high school performances and reclassification.
The University of Southern California commit's undeniable talent was highlighted in a December 2024 ESPN report.
At the time, the outlet listed him as the top shooting guard and the fourth overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
This recognition came shortly after Gilbert revealed that his son would be moving up a grade. "We're reclassing up right now. I think they just approved it today. This is his senior year now," the proud father shared.
With the reclassification, Alijah instantly ranked among the top five uncommitted players in the country.
The 18-year-old quickly earned a reputation as one of the most potent offensive forces in high school basketball. Over six games on the Adidas 3SSB circuit in July, he averaged 22 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, shooting an impressive 46% from three-point range.
How Gilbert Arenas Helps His Son Be The Best
Alijah Arenas' impressive performances are partly due to his father's coaching.
The proud dad shared details of how he coaches his son during an appearance on Paul George's "Podcast P."
He said, "Ain't no days off ... We get 3 [hundred or] 400 shots up before school." He added, "He's coachable ... depending on what day it is in the mornings we'll get up at like 5:30 so he [practices] an hour and a half."
Gilbert added, "[He goes to school, comes home and then] works out and we got lifting right after and then we got more shooting, more dribbling."
