A former Met Gala model has opened up about his interaction with Kylie Jenner at the 2023 Met Gala, which he claims ultimately cost him his job.

Last year, Eugenio Casnighi claimed he was dropped from the 2024 Met Gala guest services team after unintentionally sharing the spotlight with Jenner.

He is now speaking out about the incident and revealed what Jenner told him that made him stay close to her at the event.

The 27-year-old Italian model worked as a greeter at the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Met Gala.

He was set to continue the role in 2024, but was fired three days before the event. Casnighi claimed that his firing was due to his viral moment with Jenner after he unintentionally appeared in her red carpet photos.

Casnighi served as Jenner's greeter at the 2023 Met Gala and was tasked with assisting her with whatever she needed.

During a chat with The Mirror, the model argued that he didn't photobomb Jenner, as was widely reported.

He explained, "I don't think that's even photobombing because I was assigned to her. If you see other celebrities, they're always assigned to someone. You probably just didn't notice the greeter next to them. Kylie gave me a tip before we went on the red carpet."

He also revealed that Jenner told him, "Don't get too far from me, or it'll look weird, like you're chasing me. But don't stay too close, or it'll look like we're dating."

Casnighi continued, "Looking back on it now, that was honestly so true. She wanted me to stay five steps away from her, so that's how we did it."

The model recalled how people hated him because he appeared next to Jenner, but emphasized that he was only doing his job.

He said, "It was funny to me because a lot of people hated that I was next to her, like I was ruining her image. I wasn't pretending to be her date or anything, I was literally just there, holding her bag. That's what I was paid to do. I wasn't looking at the camera."

However, despite eventually losing his job because of the viral moment with the reality TV star, Casnighi doesn't hold Jenner responsible for his setback.

He said, "I never heard anything from Kylie's team because a.) it's not Kylie's responsibility or problem and b.) I don't even know if she remembers the whole story."

Casnighi added, "I know last year [the 2024 Met Gala], she made sure to be by herself on the red carpet. She didn't want any help. I don’t know if it's related to me or not."

The model also revealed that he saw Jenner at an event at the Brooklyn Museum but couldn't speak with her because so many people surrounded her at the time.

He added, "I would have loved to just go to her once and say, 'Hi, do you remember me? If anything [from that night] annoyed you, I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention,' just to clear it up. But you know, I think she's just fine."

Meanwhile, Casnighi opened up about his interaction with Jenner during a chat with Casino.org, "We talked a little bit. She was very nice, but very distant. I mean, she's a Kardashian, I don't know them very much, but they seem to be a bit more private."

The model continued, "But she told me everything is good so far. She said that her dress was some kind of coat that goes far down, and her biggest fear is that it's going to get stuck in heels and that she'll fall down. She asked me if I could help her with that, and obviously, of course."

Casnighi added, "When people tried to drag me and Kylie down when the viral incident happened, they kept asking me to tell them what Kylie was really like."

He concluded, "She's nice, very nice. A little distant, but I understand. We don't know each other."

Italian Model Reveals He Was Fired For Upstaging Kylie Jenner

Eugenio Casnighi first spoke about his Met Gala firing in May 2024 via a video on TikTok.

He shared that he hadn't discussed the incident before because there was a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

Casnighi claimed per The Mirror, "I've never talked about this because I've been under NDA, but funnily enough they fired me so I can say whatever I want now."

According to him, Met Gala's organizers hired him for the 2024 edition but later informed him he had been fired.

He shared, "They let me know today that they cut me off, they fired me because I went viral last year. They said, 'You made it about yourself so we can't work with you anymore.'"

Casnighi also revealed, "They don't want what happened last year to be repeated and for the models to be seen."
