According to TMZ Sports, which first obtained the footage, things turned ugly when a man allegedly shoved a phone, with its flashlight on, directly into DeRozan’s face while he was trying to enjoy his meal.
What happened next has social media in a frenzy.
In the video, DeRozan can be seen towering over the man, who is flat on his back on the restaurant floor. As security rushes in to separate the two, the fan raises his legs in self-defense while DeRozan appears to try to get in another shot. The chaos escalates as glassware and silverware are seen flying off nearby tables.
At one point, a woman dining with DeRozan grabs the man’s phone from his hand. The fan, clearly shaken, yells out, “You’re my hero,” and “I’m a big fan,” as DeRozan lunges in again.

"Fights harder at restaurants than he does for the playoffs," one NBA fan claimed.
"People need to stop thinking they can just approach everyone like that," another X user said. "Celebrity or not they still deserve space."
"DeMar is the really the last NBA player you want to be f-cking with," someone else shared. "Sounds like dude got what he deserved."
"Yall don’t want no piece of Demar," another chimed in.
Meanwhile, someone else shared a passionate post, writing:
"Basketball or not basketball but DeMar DeRozan is one of the kindest and most relatable players in the NBA. He's grown up in a tough life, made it out, and yet has been public and vocal about his struggles with mental health as a star athlete. This is literally the last guy you want to fight with.
Not just because he'll beat your a--, but also because he hasn't done anything to deserve it. DeMar is one of the leading advocates of normalizing the extremely taboo topic of mental health in sports. I just don't understand going after him. I really don't."
