Author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, Jillian Lauren has been charged with attempted murder following a police-involved shooting that occurred outside her home in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles during a manhunt for suspects involved in a hit-and-run.

According to police reports, Lauren allegedly exited her home armed with a gun, after allegedly refusing repeated commands to drop the weapon, and pointed it at officers. One officer responded by shooting Lauren in the shoulder. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later booked in absentia.

Now, new developments are surfacing, with sources claiming Jillian Lauren acted in "self defense."

In a newly aired interview on NewsNation’s Banfield, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton joined host Ashleigh Banfield to discuss the rapidly developing story surrounding Jillian Lauren.

During the Banfield interview, Hilton introduced a new element to the story that could shift the public narrative.

“I just found out something that totally changes things," Hilton began. "If what is alleged today is true, [a neighbor of Jillian's] says that they were an eyewitness to this moment with the police, and that Jillian, the wife of the bassist of Weezer, could not visually see the police officers, that she believed that this man escaped the hit-and-run and was the subject of a manhunt in her backyard, so she was working under the assumption there was an intruder on her property. It was self-defense.”

According to Hilton, the neighbor did not want to be named, "so I already think that’s a little suspicious, but this is the argument that I’m guessing Jillian might also make in court if it gets to that place, but I think it will, because this is a very serious charge."

"I’m sure there will be body cam footage," Hilton continued. "I hope that might be able to verify what is happening, but the neighbor claims that now there’s an attempted cover-up, I don’t know if that’s the truth though, then that’s a very different scenario than what we heard earlier.”

When asked if Lauren’s health or recent personal challenges may have influenced her actions, Hilton was cautious.

“You know, that would only be speculation," Hilton said. "I did do a little bit of a deep dive onto her social media to try to learn more. And I couldn’t take away too much."

He continued, "She did spend some time recently with the 'Duck Dynasty' family, and they went hunting, and that’s totally fine, you know, if she’s legally able to have a gun and protect herself, then great. But it’s good to hear from her husband that she seems to be doing better. It was not a serious injury, and Weezer will be going ahead with their Coachella performance as planned.”

The LAPD has since confirmed key details of the event.

Speaking to People Magazine, spokesperson Jennifer Forkish stated, “Our investigation revealed evidence such as a shell casing and video footage showing she repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers. She was subsequently booked for attempted murder of a peace officer.”

Audio obtained by People adds further context to the scene.

An officer can be heard reporting to dispatch, “She has a gun in her hand.” Another officer is heard saying, "Female suspect's going to be wanted for ADW [assault with a deadly weapon] on the PO [police officer]."

A follow-up call requests a response for a "female suspect, gunshot victim," describing her as wearing a "long gray sleeved shirt, black pants, armed with gun."

It is unclear at this time if Jillian Lauren has retained an attorney.
