Dave Portnoy has voiced his confusion over President Donald Trump's tariff implementation, lamenting that he's lost $7 million in his portfolio to "tariff city."

The avid Trump supporter, however, emphasized his support of the president by saying he believes Trump is "smarter" than him.

Before the tariff issue, Dave Portnoy was also critical of Donald Trump when his government's "plans" to attack Houthi rebels in Yemen were leaked to the public.

On Friday, Portnoy revealed that he suffered a staggering multi-million-dollar financial loss, seemingly attributing it to the recent tariffs implemented by Trump.

Portnoy has always been a Trump fan, supporting him in each election the 45th and 47th president has run in.

However, the Barstool Sports founder has been hit hard by the recent economic shakeup Trump's tariff placement has sparked.

"Dave, how much are you down right now and today? Seven million," he said in a Livestream, per the Daily Mail. "I'm down seven million bucks in stocks and crypto. And it's Tariff City."

"Trump has put his tariffs all over the place. I've been trying to understand them. I don't. It's more a trade deficit tariff to me," Portnoy continued.

He added, "To me like, 'Hey, we get this much sh-t from you, and you get this much from us. Let's even that up. Let's get some wacky formula and do tariffs.' And everything's in the sh--ter because of it."

Portnoy eased up on his criticism of Trump, emphasizing that he still stands by the Republican president, who he believes is "smarter" than him.

"I voted for Trump. I think he's a smart guy. You may not love him, [but] I think he's smart," Portnoy noted. "I also think he's playing a high-stakes game here. I'm gonna roll with him for a couple days, a couple weeks, and see how this pans out."

He continued, "My impression of Trump is he makes big moves, big statements, sees how people play if off. The art of the deal is a moving thing."

After briefly pivoting to criticize former President Joe Biden, whom he labeled "incompetent," Portnoy stated, "I'm going to give Trump the benefit of the doubt here."

Trump's tariffs have left citizens with mixed reactions, with some arguing that it only affects individuals with money in the stock market and others hoping the market would "bounce back" even stronger.

"Trump's team did actually spend weeks calculating the true reciprocal tariff rates for each country, and then he just decided not to do that anymore and based it on trade deficits," an X user wrote. "Absolutely absurd."

Another said, "The only problem I see is that MAGAS probably don't have any money in the stock market, most of them anyway, so no effect there, but the big guys should be sweating bullets."

"Most people complaining about the markets aren't even invested in them! If you are invested, you should understand the message of prominent investors: buy when others are fearful. The market is on sale and will produce great wealth in the following months to years!" one netizen wrote.

Some MAGA fans penned their support for the president's efforts.

"We, the People, stand with Our President. If he wants to put a tariff on Hell, we're with him," a Trump fan commented on X.

Meanwhile, Portnoy has been increasingly critical of the Trump administration in the light of recent happenings.

Last month, the government's alleged "war plans" to attack Houthi rebels in Yemen were leaked to the public after the U.S. national security advisor, Mike Waltz, added a journalist from The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a Signal group chat where said plans were being discussed.

After Goldberg released the sensitive contents of the chat, the outspoken media personality Portnoy, shared a video slamming the Trump officials involved in the mishap.

"Listen, we've all texted the wrong person," Portnoy said in a short clip. "We've all emailed the wrong person… We are not the secretary of defense; we are not the national security advisor; we are not the Vice President of the United States… Yeah, mistakes happen. This one can't."

"Guess what," he continued, referencing the discussion on the messaging app Signal, "It's super sensitive, it's super classified, it's surreal that these guys added Jeffrey Goldberg to this group chat.

Portnoy noted, "They were talking about the attack, leading up to the attack, all the way to a couple of hours when they were gonna do it, the time, the weather, you name it."

The Barstool Sports Founder Called Out Pete Hegseth And Donald Trump's Reactions To The Leak

Portnoy was very critical of Pete Hegseth's denial in the aftermath of the situation, lamenting how many American soldiers "could have died" if things had gone south.

"Pete Hegseth, immediate reaction, is like: 'No, that never happened. We didn't leak any classified information. No classified information in there,'" Portnoy said. "If this information somehow got out to the Houthis," he continued, "lots of American soldiers could have died."

Portnoy didn't spare the president from his scathing remarks.

"The reaction of Pete Hegseth and President Trump has been to kind of poo-poo it – be like: 'There's no classified information in there,'" he noted.

Portnoy also implored Trump to take action, noting that one of his officials linked to the Signal group "has to go down."

He said, "You may love Michael Waltz, you love Pete Hegseth, you love these guys. Somebody has to go down. To me, it's Michael Walz because he's the one who added [Goldberg] to this conversation."
