Gaghan shared insights about the journey of the script that originated from a chapter in Gladwell's book. Working closely together, they packaged the script with Leonardo DiCaprio, who also signed on as a producer.

Their efforts led to a frenzy in Hollywood in November 2005, with studios vying for the project. However, despite the initial excitement and a chosen studio, the film faced significant delays as years passed without progress.

Eventually, the film "Blink" found a home at Universal, and Gaghan prepared to direct with a budget and schedule in place. However, he felt compelled to refine the script further, which led to an extensive rewriting process that significantly altered the character, making him ten years younger.

When DiCaprio reportedly read the revised script, he humorously remarked on the changes, suggesting that if Gaghan did not want him in the film, he could have simply said so.

As reported by The Blast, considerable years have passed since the release of "The Dark Knight," yet Ledger's unforgettable performance as the Joker continues to resonate.

Many consider it one of the finest acting achievements in cinematic history, especially within the superhero genre. To prepare for this iconic role, Ledger reportedly undertook intense methods, including isolating himself in a hotel for several weeks to refine his character's posture and chilling laugh.

On set, his commitment to authenticity was evident; Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman, disclosed that Ledger suggested they incorporate real contact during a scene to enhance its realism.

Despite Bale's insistence that it would not be necessary to strike Ledger for the scene to have the desired impact, Ledger urged him on, fully embodying his character.

In the gripping scene, the sworn enemies, Batman and the Joker, find themselves in an intense confrontation that escalates from a mere interrogation to a brutal assault by the masked crusader.

In an impressive display of commitment, Ledger even went so far as to slam himself against the tiled walls. The contact left the walls cracking and damaging, showcasing Ledger's complete immersion in the role.

Before directing "The Dark Knight," Christopher Nolan had initially approached Ledger to try out the superhero genre.

Interestingly, Nolan wanted Ledger for the role of Batman, but the actor politely declined, stating, "I would never take a part in a superhero film." However, after witnessing Nolan's work on "Batman Begins," Ledger changed his mind.

Nolan later discussed the impact that Ledger's commitment to the role had on him, mentioning that he believed Ledger's intense dedication to his characters may have contributed to his tragic death.

Ledger preferred to take breaks between roles to fully commit himself to a character when the time was right. When he signed on for the Joker, he was evidently ready to embrace the challenge.

Nolan revealed that Ledger took his preparation seriously, studying the mechanics of ventriloquist dummies to develop the various voices he would use for the Joker, along with a distinct and chilling laugh.

Happy 46th posthumous birthday to the unforgettable Heath Ledger!
