Miley Cyrus has officially entered her "Something Beautiful" era, and she’s not doing it quietly.

On Monday morning, the pop superstar dropped "Prelude," a cinematic teaser for her upcoming ninth studio album, and while there’s no singing in the track, there’s no shortage of drama, style, and speculation.

In true Miley Cyrus fashion, "Prelude" arrives as a visual experience, not a traditional single.

The new track, spoken, not sung, is accompanied by a glamorous music video bursting with floral imagery and avant-garde fashion. The 32-year-old appears in archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture, donning a glittering headdress and gown that has fans comparing the look to a Broadway dream sequence.

“She’s dropping bread crumbs and we’re the pigeons eating it up. I can’t wait,” one fan wrote on YouTube, capturing the sentiment of eager listeners trying to piece together what "Something Beautiful" might ultimately sound like.

Another added, “MOTHER IS HYPING US TF UP.”

But not everyone expected the theatrical, almost operatic tone.

“That is not what I expected,” one follower commented, with others describing the track as a “shocked vibe shift” and a “warm-up for a 1980s Broadway musical.”

Still, praise poured in on Instagram as comments read “Iconic Art absolutely amazing!” and “I cannot wait for this album. It seems like a perfect mix of pop and fashion.”

Miley Kicks Off ‘Something Beautiful’ Era With Dazzling Visual For ‘Prelude’

The Instagram post promoting the drop read, "Miley Cyrus releases ‘Prelude,’ the first song and visual from her ninth studio album, 'Something Beautiful,' available May 30, 2025.”

The visual, directed with cinematography by Benoît Debie and shot by fashion photographer Glen Luchford, hints at a grander narrative for the album executive-produced by Cyrus and Shawn Everett.

Last week, Cyrus stunned fans with the unveiling of the album’s cover art, also shot by Luchford. In it, the “Flowers” singer appears encased in what looks like icicles, though she’s actually styled once again in vintage Thierry Mugler couture.

Cyrus’s last album, "Endless Summer Vacation," released in March 2023, cemented her status as a global pop powerhouse, thanks in large part to the smash hit “Flowers.”

The track dominated streaming platforms and won Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. The album itself earned nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

“No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?” Cyrus said in a candid interview with W Magazine talking about her long-overdue recognition at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

“I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f-ck was I?" she continued. "And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f-ck was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”

But the song’s massive success hasn’t come without controversy. “Flowers” is now at the center of a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Tempo Music Investments, a stakeholder in Bruno Mars’ 2013 hit “When I Was Your Man.”

The lawsuit alleges Cyrus “intentionally copied” the song’s lyrical structure and thematic content.

Tempo’s complaint zeroes in on the lyrics in “Flowers," including “I can buy myself flowers” and “I can hold my own hand," as modeled after Mars’ chorus, which includes “That I should have bought you flowers” and “held your hand.”

Cyrus’s attorneys sought to dismiss the case, arguing that the plaintiff didn’t hold “exclusive rights” to Mars’ track.

However, a judge ruled otherwise, stating that ownership of exclusive rights does not mean exclusive ownership. With that, the lawsuit proceeds, with Tempo, Gregory Hein, and Michael Pollack listed as plaintiffs. Mars, though credited on the original track, is not involved in the litigation.

The House That ‘Flowers’ Built

In a lighter twist to the “Flowers” legacy, the Los Angeles mansion where the music video was shot has officially sold.

The iconic four-bedroom, six-bathroom home, rented by Frank Sinatra in the 1960s and now known as Byrdview, served as the sultry, sun-drenched backdrop for Cyrus’s chart-topper. Featuring 6,661 square feet and 360-degree views of the surrounding nature preserve, the home has also appeared in "Mad Men" and music videos for Mariah Carey, Usher, and Rihanna.

With "Something Beautiful" set to drop May 30 and fans still decoding every artistic breadcrumb Miley leaves behind, one thing is certain: she’s building a new era of art, fashion, and fearless storytelling, whether the industry is ready or not.
