Kenan Thompson has reacted to Morgan Wallen's shocking decision to leave the "SNL" stage during the closing credits.
The comedian, who was on stage with the country music star when the incident happened, said Wallen's action is "definitely a spike in the norm."
Kenan Thompson also suggested that Morgan Wallen is a "complicated individual" and that the singer's "God's Country" post was "strange."
Kenan Thompson Reacts To Morgan Wallen Walking Off 'SNL' Stage

Since walking off the "SNL" stage during the closing credits, Morgan Wallen's actions have gone viral, with many fans and high-profile people reacting to the incident.
The singer further sparked controversy by later sharing a post of a private jet with the caption, "Get me to God's own country."
Now, Kenan Thompson, who was on stage with Wallen at the time he walked off, has reacted to the incident.
"I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that," the comedian expressed his shock in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way."
Thompson went on to describe Wallen's action as "definitely a spike in the norm," adding that the "SNL" cast is "so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us."
He added, "So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?"

Elsewhere in his conversation with the outlet, Thompson suggested that Wallen might be a "complicated individual" and noted that the way he walked off was so abrupt and clearly visible to everyone watching the show at home and in the studio.
"It just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway," Thompson continued. "So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible. You know what I'm saying? It was a pretty visible thing."
He went on to note that Wallen's "God's own country" post on Instagram was quite confusing and strange.
"The 'God's country' of it all is strange because it's like, what are you trying to say?" Thompson wondered.
He added, "You trying to say that we are not in God's country? We're not all in God's country? We're not all under God's umbrella? That's not necessarily my favorite. But whatever. Moving on, we got a new show. We got Jack Black this week."
Morgan Wallen Was Trolled By An 'SNL' Writer After His Stage Exit

While Thompson seemed to be diplomatic in his reaction to Wallen's walk-off, "SNL" writer Josh Patten went for the jugular.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Patten posted a picture of an open Krispy Kreme truck with the caption, "Get me to God's country," seemingly trolling the "Just in Case" crooner.
The writer also shared a screenshot of an online comment that read, "Guessing Patten's not a Morgan Wallen fan?" He captioned the image with a cryptic eye-rolling emoji.

Meanwhile, Wallen also faced backlash from social media users, with some describing him as a "petty loser" and "tone-deaf."
An X user commented, "Morgan Wallen with a little more of the catty-a-s petty loser sh-t he so proudly displayed running offstage down the center aisle & right past the camera at SNL curtain call…This & the tone-deaf private jet flaunt couldn't be more lame & undercutting coming from a country star."
Someone else commented, "Morgan Wallen proving once again he has ZERO self control and is a little b-tch storming off the stage before the credits even rolled. Hope the tantrum was worth it because you'll NEVER be on #SNL again."
Morgan Wallen Leaving The 'SNL' Stage Was Not Intentional, Says Source

Although Wallen has yet to make any remarks about the controversy he stirred, a source claimed that the singer's exit was not intentional but rather a mistake.
The insider told TMZ that the country music star "entered and exited the studio the same way he did Saturday night during rehearsal and camera blocking all week leading up to the live show" and "he routinely headed that way when he thought it was time" to leave the stage.
A different insider told Variety that the country music star had no tension with the "SNL" cast and actually had a good time throughout. They also noted that he was not trying to throw shade with his "abrupt" exit and Instagram post.
