Kristin Davis is opening up about the uncomfortable moments she experienced during her time on "Sex and the City," revealing that she felt pressured into filming a topless scene she wasn’t initially comfortable with.
On the latest episode of her "Are You a Charlotte?" podcast, Kristin Davis, now 60, candidly recalled how showrunner Michael Patrick King convinced her to go topless for a Season 5 episode.
Kristin Davis Says 'Sex And The City' Scene Left Her 'Mortified' And Anxious

“Michael Patrick [King] forced me to do it,” she said on the podcast. “He kept telling me, ‘It’ll be fine. It’ll be great.’”
Despite ultimately laughing off the experience, Davis admitted that the scene, which was shot in a public restaurant surrounded by people, was “mortifying” and caused her significant anxiety at the time. “And it is [a good scene]. But we were in a restaurant. There were people everywhere,” she remembered.
While speaking with guest and "Sex and the City" writer Jenny Bicks, Davis also touched on another challenging moment from Season 6. Her character, Charlotte York, strips down completely to step into a mikveh bath as part of her conversion to Judaism, a scene Davis says felt more meaningful but was still difficult to film under the circumstances.
“It was a very, very integral part of the storyline,” Davis explained. “Because it wasn’t sexual, it’s much easier to have some nudity in a non-sexual way in a spiritual way.” Still, she recalled feeling frustrated by the atmosphere on set, where crew members, including the assistant director, were smoking cigars and standing in her line of vision during the shoot.
“I was like, ‘Uh, I’m trying to do something here without feeling self-conscious. Could you possibly move all those guys?’” she said. “It’s crazy back then what went on.”

Even with her character’s growing importance and the show’s cultural influence, Davis said she often had to be the one to speak up and set boundaries, a position she didn’t always feel comfortable in.
“Even in a situation where you theoretically did have so much power, all that stuff was still able to happen and you had to be the bad guy and be like, ‘They can’t smoke cigars literally in my eye line,’” she added.
Kristin Davis Admits She 'Didn’t Feel Protected' On 'Sex And The City' Set

Despite the tension behind the scenes, Davis said she’s ultimately proud of the mikveh moment. “It was gorgeous, romantic perfection,” she said. “I’m so happy I did it.”
She joked that in hindsight, she may have been too worried about on-screen nudity. “I was so stressed … [but] I should have just been running through town with my shirt off," the actress said.
Davis' podcast confession follows a February interview with People, where she revealed that she didn’t always feel “protected” on set. At one point, she said, “I had to hide in my dressing room and call my manager in LA at 2 in the morning.”
Davis Reveals She Didn’t Want To Break Up With Alec Baldwin

Kristin Davis is getting candid about a surprising reason she once hesitated to end a relationship with Alec Baldwin.
On her "Are You a Charlotte?" podcast, the "Sex and the City" star admitted that it wasn’t just Baldwin’s charm that made her think twice about calling it quits, it was his real estate.
“One of the best things about Alec Baldwin when I dated him was that he had the most incredible house in Amagansett,” Davis shared with a laugh.

The actress revealed that she even confided in her "Sex and the City" co-star Sarah Jessica Parker at the time.
“I remember I was at work and I was like, ‘Sarah Jessica, I don’t know if it’s going to work out with Alec and I, but I just really love that house,’” she said. “Which is literally like one of the only times I have felt that way. You know? I don’t want to break up with this person because I like his house. It’s so embarrassing to say that out loud, but it’s true.”
Baldwin, now 66, bought the historic 10,000-square-foot Amagansett home in 1996. Built in 1740, the property became one of his most beloved places. When he put it up for sale in 2022, he later shared a video tour in 2024 and reflected, “I fell in love with this place the moment I came here.”
