Why Kanye West Has Yet To Be Placed In A Conservatorship

It’s starting to seem like not a day goes by without Kanye West appearing in the news for a long rant on social media or an insensitive remark.
His recent antics, which some have compared to a mental health breakdown, have some asking why he has not yet been placed in a conservatorship.
Why Kanye West Isn’t In A Conservatorship… Yet

As one can imagine, the amount of evidence that one needs to place someone in a conservatorship is pretty high. In summary, a conservatorship is a legal concept where a court appoints someone to manage the personal or financial affairs of someone who is incapable of doing so.
This is like the equivalent of being found guilty in a courtroom. Someone needs to take on the burden of proof to show that an individual is not capable of managing their personal and financial affairs.
While Ye’s behavior has raised concerns, it seemingly hasn’t met the threshold required for a conservatorship to take place.
Kanye West Claims He Lost $2 Billion In Just One Day

Some may question how Ye is still capable of managing his own affairs when he supposedly lost over two billion dollars in just one day. Ye was reportedly at a restaurant with Justin Laboy when his accounts were frozen in February 2025.
"That was the first time I saw a billionaire have no access to money,” Ye said on The Download podcast. “It was crazy. It was like some Black Mirror episode. They wanted to do everything to prove to me that I didn’t have the right to say anything out loud that went against the people who own the media and the people who own the music industry - the people that Drake is going up against right now, ironically.”
Ye Claims He Is Going Up Against The ‘Kardashian Mob’

Between his anti-Semitic rants on social media and his vocal support for Sean “Diddy” Combs, many were not surprised to see Ye turn his attention to the “Kardashian mob” amid reports that his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, is “considering” filing for full custody of their four children: North, 11, Saint, 8, Chicago, 6, and Psalm, 5.
In one social media post, he says he needs to have a “say so” of what they wear, where they go to school, who they can be friends with, whose houses they can sleep over at, and whether his daughters can wear perfume or other cosmetics.
“ALL THESE RIGHTS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM ME BY THE KARDASHIAN MOB HULU AND DISNEY AND THE BIGGER AGENDA TO USE THE SELECTIVELY BRED BLACK CHILDREN TO BE PLATFORMS TO INFLUENCE BLACK PEOPLE,” he claimed as part of his rant.
Kim Kardashian May Be Trying To Get Her Kids Away From Kanye West

Although he may not have a conservatorship filed against him, it appears that Kim is still trying to limit their children’s exposure to his outbursts. “The Kardashians” reality star recently reportedly canceled a visit between North and her father after she learned that brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate would be there.
According to Page Six, an insider shared that everyone in the Kardashian family is upset to see him “sinking further down” as his mental health struggles seemingly increase.
"It's not getting any better, he's not a well person, he's sinking further down and he's not acting rationally,” the source shared. “There's so much negativity – I don't think he can come out of this.”
What Will It Take To Put Kanye West In A Conservatorship?

A source told Page Six that it seems likely that Ye is not taking his medication, which then puts one in a position of asking who can force him to take his medication. At this point, it’s likely that Ye will not be considered for a conservatorship until he hurts himself or someone else in the physical sense.
While it can be argued that words do indeed have the power to hurt, it seems that his comments have been mostly ignored up until this point. Instead, it seems that no one will take him seriously until he proves that he is a danger to himself or others, much like when Britney Spears shaved her head in February 2007. Only one year later, she was placed in a conservatorship that gave her father control of her finances and personal decisions for the next thirteen years.
If insiders really do agree that Ye is “sinking” as fast as it seems, then it would seem that a plan for a conservatorship would already be in the works, one that the public would definitely not be privy to.
Who his conservator would be is anyone’s guess, but many are hoping that something will happen sooner rather than later for the sake of his children, if no one else.
