Over the weekend, Grimes penned a lengthy message about the growing trend of mental health discussions on social media. She argued that these accounts were doing more harm than good, phrasing her comments as a response to a post that claimed that "excessive reading in childhood is a sign of dissociation."

"I have to say, there's this subculture of, I guess, 'mental health' accounts that I actually think are like extreme infohazards. Got diagnosed with ADHD/autism this year and realized I'm probably dyslexic, which is why I can't spell at all without spellcheck [sic]," Grimes began on X.

She believed receiving her ADHD/Autism diagnosis as a child would have impacted her life negatively, noting, "I would have worked so much less hard, been on drugs, and so many of the weird obsessions and motivations I had would have been seen as pathological."

The Singer Believes She Would 'Have Been Drugged'

Grimes implied that an early ADHD/Autism diagnosis would have stopped her from facing her fears and relying on medications to cope. "I could have written off certain things that were very hard for me, but I'm glad I overcame them. Probably would have been drugged too [sic]," she wrote.

The 'Genesis' hitmaker recalled studying various mental illnesses in school, claiming she and some of her classmates discovered symptoms could be contagious. She noted they would experience the signs of the mental illness they were studying, only for them to disappear once the class was over.

"But people are self diagnosing. And also, I feel a huge percentage of ADHD is screen addiction and dopaminergic burnout. My ADHD symptoms were infinitely worse when I wasn't an avid reader [sic]," Grimes continued.

She slammed the post on "excessive reading," claiming it was "trying to pathologize one of the best things a child can do to help with ADHD."

Grimes Warns Fans About The Impacts Of Mental Health Culture

Grimes doubled down on reading being important to children, noting it could help them "become an autodidact and knowledgeable person." On that note, she found the account pushing reading as a sign of dissociation in children as problematic and "dark."

"I think the nature of this uninformed social media mental health subculture is really a big concern. Some are great, of course, but a lot of these seem like explicitly anti-civilizational and geared towards making people worse [sic]," Grimes concluded her post.

She reiterated her arguments in the comments while responding to fans. When someone argued that mental health issues weren't contagious like she claimed, Grimes stressed that the symptoms could be.

"Many have reported the phenomenon that learning about various mental disorders can cause them to temporarily have symptoms [sic]," she explained.

"So I just think unsupervised medical advice and proliferation of information about symptoms is a very tricky thing," Grimes added. She stressed to another fan that most people suffered from "dopaminergic burnout," which mimicked ADHD symptoms instead of the actual condition.

The Canadian Singer Wants Elon Musk To Stop Parading Their Kids

Grimes’ concerns about the mental health culture come days after she slammed the father of her three children on X. The Blast covered the story, reporting the singer called out Musk for repeatedly making public appearances with their son, Little X, despite her disapproval.

“I have tried begging the public and my kids' dad to keep them offline, and I've tried legal recourse,” Grimes lamented on the platform after a user warned her of the dangers of having her children's identities exposed on the internet. The Canadian entertainer stressed that she knew the risks but couldn't stop her ex.

“I follow you here. I've seen young ppl destroyed by the internet, too. The state of my children's lives being public is of grave concern to me, and I think about how to solve this every day,” Grimes penned. She noted she didn't “trust the law” to fix the situation even if she reported Musk's behavior.

Grimes’ worries about her son skyrocketed after Little X went viral for his visit to the White House. He accompanied his billionaire father to meet President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order to give Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) more power.

Little X caught the reporters’ attention during the press conference by making funny expressions while seated on his father's shoulders, followed by a hilarious interaction with the POTUS. Grimes stressed that she was unaware of her son's participation in the event, writing:

“He should not be in public like this. I did not see this. Thank you for alerting me [sic]. But I'm glad he was polite. Sigh.”

Grimes previously clashed with Musk over her rights to her children, claiming he stopped her from accessing their kids. She alleged the Tesla executive also prevented them from seeing their grandmother, who was terminally ill. The singer has moved on with Anyma, an Italian-American DJ born Matteo Milleri.

Could Grimes’ mental health post be related to her concerns about Elon Musk's parenting?
