Williams was unexpectedly rushed out of her assisted living facility on Monday to undergo a cognitive evaluation at the Lenox Hill Hospital.

The former talk show host was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023 before her care team announced that she'd been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2024 "after undergoing a battery of medical tests."

According to the Daily Mail, she was led out to an ambulance and will be taking a medical exam to determine if she is well enough to end her guardianship.

Around 11:15 am that morning, she seemingly sparked concerns after dropping a note to paparazzi from her fifth floor room, which allegedly read "Help! Wendy!!"

A family source shared that the move is seen as a relief for the former "Wendy Williams Show" host, as she sees the medical intervention as a rescue effort.

"The family has been waiting for today for many years," a source told the news outlet. "This is the beginning of the end of this nightmare. Wendy is so grateful for her family and friends who have fought so hard to put an end to all of this. Those who are responsible will be held accountable."

Another source told TMZ that "a caregiver not associated with the guardianship" ordered the trip and test for Williams amid concerns over her confined lifestyle.

The daytime talk show host is seeking to end her years-long court-ordered guardianship and reportedly thinks she has the man for the job in legal wizard Joe Tacopina.

Tacopina confirmed that Williams had contacted him during his appearance as a guest on the 2 Angry Men podcast with Harvey and Mark Geragos.

He expressed his disdain for her living arrangement, particularly stating that murderers have more freedom than the legendary TV personality.

As the show continued, Harvey got a text from someone in Williams' camp asking him to take a look at a Vanity Fair article in which Williams' guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, spoke out.

The report seemingly annoyed him as he read one of Morrissey's quotes that said, "Nobody's saying that Wendy can't leave a building," noting how she's been able to travel to Florida twice: once for her son's college graduation and a second time for her dad's birthday.

In a recent chat over the phone with "Nightline" co-anchor Byron Pitts, Williams talked about her living condition at the New York care facility where she has been staying, likening it to a "prison."

"How am I doing? I'm still in prison, so to speak," she told Pitts, per ABC News. "As I said, because it's a fact, this is the memory unit. That's what this floor is called, the memory unit. And it is true that these people who live here don't remember anything."

She added, "Look, I don't belong here at all. This is ridiculous." Elsewhere during their conversation, Williams also slammed reports of her ailing health with dementia.

"Frontotemporal dementia? Uh, how dare you. And I'm not saying you, because I've been accused of having that," Williams said. "And how do you prove it by keeping me locked here so that you can't… I can't see, look. I can't go out."

Williams has been living under a legal guardianship that oversees her finances and health since 2022.

She has continually disputed her court-appointed guardian, Morrissey's, claims that suggest she's "cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated."

"I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison," Williams said on The Breakfast Club in January. "I'm in this place with people who are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s. .... These people, there's something wrong with these people here on this floor. I am clearly not."

She also explained that the elevators in the facility are locked, visitors are restricted, and she is unable to come and go as she pleases, while adding that she is unaware of what medications the facility is administering to her.
