Angel Reese is used to making headlines, and she rarely comments on the news.
However, that all changed after she shared a fiery post to X, formerly Twitter, blasting a conservative social media account for lying about her words for engagement.
In early March 2025, Angel Reese set the record straight about a comment she made regarding the WNBA likely sitting out of a future season if their contracts don't include a higher paycheck.

On an episode of her podcast, "Unapologetically Angel," the Chicago Sky rookie discussed the WNBA, salaries, and the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that players are hoping will secure them bigger paychecks in 2026.
While chatting with another WNBA athlete, DiJonai Carrington, Reese explained how excited she was about the upcoming negotiations. According to her, it's time for everybody to earn more money.
Later, Reese, whose rookie salary was around $74,000 for the season, made a statement that turned heads. "I got to get in the [CBA negotiation] meetings because I'm hearing like, if y'all don't give us what we want, we sitting out," she said.

Some social media accounts, which, by the way, thrive on spreading misinformation, took Reese's words and twisted them, creating a fake story that Reese said WNBA players should be paid as much as their NBA counterparts.
One account, @TaraBull808, posted a photo of the 6'3" power forward in her Chicago Sky jersey, attributing the quote, "We should be getting paid like NBA players," to Reese. However, the LSU alum never said that.
Another account, @akafaceUS, which is a conservative account in favor of President Donald Trump, also posted fake news about Reese before deleting it hours later.
The false reporting sparked quite a reaction online, with other users slamming Reese and her peers for believing they had the power to make such a change.
However, the 22-year-old cleared the air with a scathing post days later before calling her detractors out for keeping up with her every move.
Angel Reese Responds To Recent Hate
I love how yall have selective hearing. I said “I’m hearing if they don’t give us what we want, we sitting out” and that’s the truth. I never said anything about the NBA. We are prepared to stay at the negotiating table for as long as it takes. Here’s the link to my podcast so… https://t.co/UQ7aHtUIXi

On March 8, 2025, Reese blasted the conservative account for spreading misinformation and for having "selective hearing."
"I said, 'I'm hearing if they don't give us what we want, we [are] sitting out,' and that's the truth," Reese posted. "I never said anything about the NBA. We are prepared to stay at the negotiating table for as long as it takes."
A day later, Reese jumped back on social media to respond to a user who shared a video detailing the unprecedented amount of hate the Maryland native gets online.
"For somebody they 'hate' so much, literally be having them so riled up," Reese wrote. "Having to tell lies for engagement is crazyyyy work."
Later, Reese made another post, seemingly hinting that she wasn't planning on retracting her earlier statement about WNBA player's pay. "I said [what the f-ck] I said," she posted. "And I'll say it again."

After Reese went viral, other users chimed in to defend the Unrivaled basketball player against the unnecessary backlash.
"Angel Reese is purposely misunderstood," one user wrote, which Reese reposted on her page.
"The hate toward Angel Reese is so bizarre," a second user posted. "She's simply advocating for equal opportunities for women in the WNBA. Yet, she's facing backlash for it."
Reese Surprised Her Mother With Financial Gift

Reese's statement about WNBA salaries isn't the first time she's been in the headlines for discussing finances. In February 2025, the young adult sparked a major debate over money after she paid her mother's mortgage in full for her birthday before giving her the option to work.
“You can pick if you want to work still, [but] your mortgage today has been paid," Reese said on her podcast.
Many wondered how she was able to pull off such an extravagant move, considering her league salary. However, thanks to her collaborations with Beats by Dre, McDonald's, Reebok, Sephora, Reeses, and more, Reese is one of the WNBA's top earners off of the court.
"The deals don't just stop in college," Reese said about her marketability. "When you go to the pros, they continue, and I feel like they've grown even more. Now that I'm a pro, I can do so much more."
