As a way to make amends, the "Bupkis" star reportedly gifted Jost a $20,000 Cartier watch as an olive branch following their alleged backstage fallout.

According to The Sun, Davidson extended the lavish peace offering shortly after leaving rehab last summer. The luxury timepiece was a clear sign that the comedian is looking to mend fences with Jost after their rumored rift behind the scenes of "SNL."

Many speculate that the source of tension between Davidson and Jost could be tied to their ambitious, yet stalled, Staten Island ferry project. The pair purchased the decommissioned vessel in January 2022, intending to transform it into a live entertainment venue.

However, the ferry remains docked and unusable, and Jost has publicly called the venture “the dumbest and least thought-through purchase.” It’s possible these remarks didn’t sit well with Davidson, who might have felt criticized or undervalued as a business partner.

Davidson has long been open about feeling like an outsider at "SNL," particularly when it came to "Weekend Update." As early as 2020, he voiced frustrations about the jokes made at his expense, many of which aired on the segment that Jost co-hosted and oversaw as head writer.

“I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me on it," Davidson said at the time, per EW. "I don’t know whose team they’re playing for really, if I’m the joke or I’m in on the joke.”

This ongoing discomfort may have contributed to an undercurrent of resentment toward Jost, who had a direct hand in the show's comedic direction. While it’s unclear if this played a direct role in their feud, the friction could have intensified over time, potentially snowballing into something bigger.

Davidson’s own behavior may also be a factor.

Reports of him missing meetings and canceling projects have circulated for some time. Notably, he dropped out of "Worst Man," a wedding comedy he was slated to star in alongside Jost, which might have strained their working relationship. Davidson's alleged unreliability, combined with his personal struggles, including a recent stint in rehab, could have created friction between the two.

As The Blast reported, the "Saturday Night Live" alum took a much-needed break to prioritize his health, checking himself into rehab last July. The decision followed an intense period of work, including over 200 live stand-up shows nationwide, multiple film projects, and the release of his second Netflix comedy special, "Turbo Fonzarelli," in January.

In the summer of 2023, Davidson sought treatment to manage his PTSD and borderline personality disorder. At the time, a source told PEOPLE, "Pete will often check himself into rehab to work on these issues. His friends and family have been supportive during this time."

In an August 2018 interview with Variety, Pete Davidson opened up about his long journey with mental health, revealing he’d “been in and out of mental health facilities” since he was 9 years old. At the time of the interview, Davidson shared that new medication had helped stabilize him after years of struggle.

“The last few years have been real rough with me,” he admitted. “I took all these mental health classes and really spent a lot of time getting me good.”

While Davidson has since gotten help, about six months ago, rumors surfaced that Jost had cut Davidson out of his life entirely, refusing to be seen in the same room with him.

Tabloid reports even suggested that Davidson wasn’t welcome back at "SNL" because of the tension. While the truth behind these claims remains uncertain, the $20,000 olive branch could be a sign that Davidson is ready to turn the page.
