Adrien Brody and Halle Berry recreated their infamous Oscars kiss on the 2025 red carpet, and Brody’s girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, had a front-row seat.
On Sunday night, Adrien Brody was being interviewed at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles when Halle Berry snuck up behind him.

The “Catwoman” actress couldn’t resist a playful reenactment of their memorable 2003 Oscars moment.
“I’m sorry, Georgina, but I have to do it,” Berry said to Chapman before wrapping her arms around Brody’s neck and giving him a big, theatrical kiss on the lips.
As the two locked lips and shared a laugh, Chapman, who was standing nearby in a custom strapless Marchesa gown, appeared nothing but supportive.
She clapped and cheered, showing no signs of jealousy or discomfort.

Berry, who has been dating musician Van Hunt since 2020, later explained to Chapman that the kiss was simply a playful “payback.”
“I had to do that, I had to pay him back,” Berry told the “Project Runway All Stars” alum, according to “Access Hollywood.”
The kiss was a callback to the 2003 Academy Awards, where Brody surprised Berry on stage after winning Best Actor for his role as Wladyslaw Szpilman in “The Pianist.” At the time, he swept her into an impromptu kiss that left viewers stunned.
“No, that was not planned. I knew nothing about it,” Berry said in a 2017 interview, per ABC. “For real, I was like, ‘What the f-ck is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind.”

The reenactment added a fun, nostalgic moment to the star-studded night, which also saw Brody taking home his second Oscar, this time for his performance in “The Brutalist.”
During his acceptance speech, Brody thanked Chapman and her two children, Dash and India, for their unwavering support.
“I share this with my amazing partner, Georgina, who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth, but my sense of value and my values,” Brody said during his speech. “And her beautiful children, Dash and India, I know this has been a rollercoaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life, and Popsy’s coming home a winner!”

However, the actor also made headlines for his unconventional gum-tossing move.
As Brody made his way to the stage to accept his second Best Actor award for his performance in the Brady Corbet-directed drama, he briefly paused, reached up to his mouth, and casually tossed the gum toward Chapman’s outstretched hands. The surprising moment quickly became a talking point, prompting Kelly Ripa to bring it up during Brody’s appearance on “Live With Kelly & Mark” the following morning.
“Gum! Because I forgot I was chewing gum, and I can’t [chew gum in a] thank you speech,” Brody explained, laughing off the incident.
Cohost Mark Consuelos chimed in, noting, “You can’t swallow it because it’s bad for you,” to which Brody responded, “I could’ve! I didn’t think about that. I just thought, ‘I’ve got to get rid of this somehow!'”

During his five-minute speech, Brody, who triumphed over Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Sebastian Stan, and Ralph Fiennes in the fiercely competitive Best Actor category, reflected on the significance of his second Oscar win. He described the honor as “beyond the pinnacle of a career” and expressed hope that it would demonstrate his worthiness of “such meaningful, important, and relevant roles.”
“No matter where you are in your career and what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away,” Brody said. “And I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love.”
