Timothée Chalamet may have been aiming for history at the 2025 Oscars, but the night did not go as planned with Adrien Brody's presence.

The actor lost his shot at becoming the youngest Best Actor winner for portraying Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown." Chalamet's critically acclaimed performance as Dylan earned him a Best Actor nomination, putting him in the running to make Oscars history.

This loss comes at a time when Timothée Chalamet is facing intense scrutiny following backlash over an off-color joke about former President Jimmy Carter during a recent "Saturday Night Live" appearance.

Chalamet's chance to make Oscars history slipped away as Adrien Brody retained his decades-long record. Despite delivering a widely praised performance as Bob Dylan, the 29-year-old lost out to Brody, who took home the award for "The Brutalist."

The twist? Brody himself set the record back in 2003 when he won for "The Pianist" at the same age, just a few months older than Chalamet is now.

Page Six noted that had Chalamet won, he would have edged out Brody by mere months, as he turns 30 in December. Instead, he will have to wait for another shot at making history.

Chalamet previously earned an Oscar nomination in 2018 for his breakout role in "Call Me by Your Name," where he became the youngest Best Actor nominee since Mickey Rooney in 1939.

He was not the only contender to leave empty-handed this year. Fellow nominees Sebastian Stan, Colman Domingo, and Ralph Fiennes also missed out on taking home the golden statue.

Chalamet may have missed out on making Oscars history, but he certainly did not leave the night empty-handed. The actor was joined by his reality star girlfriend for Hollywood's biggest night.

While the couple kept a low profile, they were not shy about showing affection inside the Dolby Theatre. Before the ceremony began, Chalamet was seen whispering in Jenner's ear and planting a kiss on her cheek.

Jenner, skipping the red carpet, made a fashion statement in a sleek black gown with daring cutouts, while Chalamet opted for a light yellow suit. The duo, who have been dating since early 2023, have slowly become more public with their romance.

Chalamet may have lost his shot at the Oscars, but one might believe his fate was sealed long before awards night, thanks to a controversial joke about former president Jimmy Carter.

The Blast reported that backlash erupted in January after Chalamet, during his "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig, made an off-color remark just weeks after Carter's passing. One viewer at the time predicted it could hurt his chances at Oscar gold, writing:

"If I were a betting man, I would've bet on Timothée Chalamet winning an Oscar for his Dylan portrayal, but his dead Jimmy Carter joke on 'SNL' a full month before voting ends changes that. Insensitive and really immature. Just unnecessary."

The controversy stemmed from a skit called "Bungee," in which Chalamet played a workout instructor. At one point, he directed participants to perform "The Jimmy Carter," causing them to go limp in their harnesses as if lifeless.

The reaction was swift; gasps filled the studio, and social media lit up with criticism. "Totally disrespectful and out of line," one viewer wrote, adding, "And yes, I have a sense of humor and love the show, but that was just horrible and too soon."

Another added, "Wow, 'SNL,' a Jimmy Carter is dead joke? Not funny, not appropriate." While it is unclear if the joke directly impacted Chalamet's chances, the backlash certainly did not help.

The lovebirds may not be shy about sharing affectionate moments in public, but when it comes to discussing their relationship, they are keeping things strictly off-limits.

The Blast highlighted how Jenner skillfully dodged questions about Chalamet during a New York Times profile last March. When asked if Chalamet had influenced her evolving fashion choices, she remained firm, stating:

"I don't know how I feel about that. I just don't want to talk about personal things."

Jenner's reluctance to open up might have fueled curiosity, especially since her style transformation has been hard to ignore. Long gone are the days of her bold "King Kylie" era, complete with colorful wigs and heavy glam.

Instead, the beauty mogul embraced a more refined and minimalist aesthetic, sparking speculation that Chalamet may have played a role in the shift.

Jenner's fashion choices have always been a topic of conversation, but her shift to a more understated look had fans buzzing about a possible Chalamet connection.

An example that caught attention was when the socialite swapped her usual high-glam style for a soft, cottagecore-inspired maxi dress during a summer getaway.

The unexpected change, paired with her new preference for minimal makeup, shorter nails, and neutral tones, left many wondering if their relationship had anything to do with it.

Despite public curiosity about their romance, Jenner made other changes to her personal life, including being more private than ever.

She dialed back on sharing personal aspects of her life. Data from the Kardashian Data Koalition even showed that Jenner cut down posts featuring her children by 47% from 2022 to 2023.

While his Oscar dreams may be on hold for now, Timothée Chalamet's talent ensures this will not be his last shot at a golden trophy!
