But, listed in his death certificate is another "significant condition contributing to death" which was "Barrett's Esophagus."
Eddie announced in the months before his death that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. In a video interview, he said the cancer had spread to his liver and lymph nodes.
Barrett’s esophagus is normally the result of repeated exposure to stomach acid. It’s most often diagnosed in people with long-term gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Frequent heartburn and chest pain are common symptoms. In some cases, it develops into esophageal cancer.
The certificate says Money was cremated and his ashes were given to his family.
His occupation was listed as "entertainer" and had been in the business for 42 years.
Before his death, Eddie underwent a minimally invasive heart valve surgery, and while in the hospital he developed pneumonia.
Before his death, Tthe 'Take Me Home Tonight' singer discussed his diagnoses and appeared in a video on AXS TV with his wife to explain his condition.
“I thought I was just going in to get a checkup and [the doctor] told me that I got cancer,” Money says in the video.
“He’s been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer,” his wife Laurie explained, noting it had “spread to his liver.”
Eddie went on to say, "it hit me really, really hard. What I don’t want to do is, I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody. It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody. I want people to know that cancer’s come a long way and not everyone dies from cancer like they did in the ‘50s and ‘60s."
"It’s in God’s hands. But you know what, I’ll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day," he concluded.
Eddie Money died on September 13, 2019.
