Jordan Chiles is keeping her options open when it comes to competing in the 2028 Olympics.
The 23-year-old gymnast, who was at the center of a high-profile medal controversy at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, shared her thoughts on her future in gymnastics at the TIME Women of the Year Gala on February 25.
Jordan Chiles On 2028 Olympics: 'It's Not A No And It's Not A Yes' Amid Medal Controversy

"It's not a no and it's not a yes," Chiles told E! News. "I think my biggest thing is just taking it year by year, month by month and then we're gonna see."
Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal in the women's floor exercise final last August, with the medal ultimately awarded to Romania's Ana Barbosu. Despite the setback, Chiles took home gold with Team USA and remains determined to fight for what she believes is right.
In September, she filed a formal appeal with the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to overturn the controversial decision. "I really can't say too much about the bronze medal," Chiles explained. "I just know my attorneys are doing their best to figure everything out. I'm always going to fight and be my best self because that's just who I am."
While her Olympic future remains uncertain, Chiles emphasized that she is in a much better place now than she was following the medal controversy.
Jordan Chiles Named TIME's 2025 Woman Of The Year

Named one of TIME's 2025 Women of the Year, Chiles is embracing the journey, whether or not it leads to another Olympic appearance.
"I'm always going to fight and be my best self because that's just who I am," she said, proving that no matter where her path leads, she'll do it with the strength and grace that has defined her career.
During the floor exercise final of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chiles was the last athlete to perform. She needed to surpass the scores of Brazil's Rebeca Andrade (14.166), USA’s Simone Biles (14.133), and Romania’s Ana Barbosu (13.700) to secure a spot on the podium.
After delivering a powerful, Beyoncé-inspired routine, Chiles earned a score of 13.666, initially placing her fifth.
However, Team USA's coaches submitted a score inquiry.
Jordan Chiles' Score Inquiry Leads To Bronze Medal Win

The challenge can only be initiated after the gymnast’s final score is posted and before the next gymnast completes their routine. If the gymnast is the last to compete, a one-minute time limit applies.
The inquiry focused on a split leap in Chiles' routine called the tour jeté full. “In the team qualification, in the team final, she did not get credit for this skill,” Olympian and NBC gymnastics analyst John Roethlisberger explained, per E! News. “Her coaches said, ‘We thought she did it much better here in the final. So we thought we have nothing to lose, let’s put in an inquiry.’”
After reviewing Chiles’ performance, the judges accepted the inquiry, adding 0.1 to her score and bumping her to 13.766, enough to secure the bronze medal. Chiles was visibly emotional, shedding happy tears as the announcement was made. Meanwhile, Barbosu, who had already begun celebrating, lost her spot on the podium.
Jordan Chiles Stripped Of Bronze Medal As Court Rules Inquiry Missed Deadline

The drama took another turn when the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Barbosu’s appeal, ruling that the inquiry was “raised after the conclusion of the one-minute deadline.”
The decision reinstated Chiles' original score of 13.666, stripping her of the bronze medal. The court also dismissed Romanian coach Maneca-Voinea’s application regarding an execution penalty.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Chiles would be required to return the bronze medal. The ruling not only dashed her hopes of an individual Olympic podium finish but also ignited debates over the fairness of the appeal process and the role of technicalities in Olympic outcomes.
USA Gymnastics Presents 'Time-Stamped' Evidence, But CAS Refuses To Reconsider Ruling

USA Gymnastics insisted its inquiry on behalf of Chiles had been submitted within the necessary timeframe and claimed it had “time-stamped, video evidence” to prove it.
According to the organization, the footage showed Canqueteau-Landi first stating “her request to file an inquiry at the inquiry table 47 seconds after the score is posted, followed by a second statement 55 seconds after the score was originally posted.”
However, USA Gymnastics revealed that despite presenting this evidence, CAS informed them that “their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented.”
Meanwhile, Ana Barbosu was awarded the bronze medal in a ceremony held in her home country of Romania, closing a contentious chapter in the 2024 Olympic gymnastics competition.
