Gifford recalled that she and her six-week-old daughter, Cassidy, were on their way to Atlantic City when her late husband, NFL legend Frank Gifford, received a disturbing phone call from the FBI.

“The FBI called my husband, and they said, 'Mr. Gifford, we have a problem. There's this guy. This is a very, very bad human being. [He] was a psychopathic murderer, a rapist and murderer. And he's coming to get your wife,’” she shared, per Daily Mail.

According to federal agents, the suspect had a history of violent crimes, including raping and torturing his own aunt. The victim managed to escape and alert authorities, revealing that her attacker had stolen her keys and told her, ‘Now I’m going to go after Kathie Lee.’

The FBI advised Frank Gifford not to change their plans, fearing that any sudden schedule adjustments would tip off the suspect. However, Frank refused to accept that advice until he made one crucial phone call to Donald Trump.

Gifford explained that she always stayed at Trump Plaza and Casino when in Atlantic City, meaning the stalker would have known exactly where to find her. However, Trump took immediate steps to ensure her safety.

“Frank called Donald. And Donald said, ‘Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls. I’ve got your girls. And don’t you worry.’”

Trump personally arranged for his private helicopter to transport Kathie Lee, her daughter, and her nanny safely to Atlantic City, keeping them out of harm’s way.

At the time, Gifford had no idea about the threat against her life or that Trump had intervened. “I never heard it until just the other day,” she admitted.

Gifford remembered being surprised when Trump reached out, offering her his helicopter. However, he never disclosed the real reason behind his generosity. “He made up an excuse and said, ‘Because you’ve had a baby.’”

At first, Gifford didn’t think much of it. “I said, ‘Donald, women have babies every day. It's no big deal. Thank you. But it's no big deal.’”

But Trump insisted, telling her, “No, congratulations. So happy for you… I’m sending my helicopter for you and your baby and your nanny.”

When Gifford arrived in Atlantic City, she was greeted by a team of Trump’s personal security guards, though she still didn’t understand why. “I mean, these guys are major, major, and they're like, ‘Mrs. Gifford, Mr. Trump wants you to know that we're here for you,’” she recalled.

Still unaware of the imminent threat against her, she carried on with Miss America pageant preparations. Even as the security team continued to follow her, she never questioned it, chalking it up to post-pregnancy exhaustion. “I just never thought about it, you know? But he never said a word. Nobody said a word to me.”

It wasn’t until the day of the pageant that Gifford finally learned about the threat against her. “I saw a newspaper headline about the suspect coming for me,” she said.

Despite the danger, she refused to back down. “They asked me, ‘Are you reconsidering getting on stage?’ And I said, ‘Hell no... nobody's going to make me afraid.’”

After returning home to Connecticut, Gifford went to the movies with her son, Cody, where an FBI agent interrupted her mid-film to deliver the news. “In the middle of the movie, one of the FBI guys comes over and goes, ‘Mrs. Gifford, we got this son of a b-tch."

Her relief was immediate and overwhelming, expressing, “I said, ‘Thank you so much.’”

Reflecting on the experience, Gifford became emotional, expressing her gratitude toward Trump. “And this is why I will love this man for my whole life,” she said, breaking down in tears.

Trump never took credit for the act, keeping his involvement hidden for decades, which makes the story even more meaningful to Gifford.
