Patrick Mahomes is kicking off the NFL offseason with a fresh new look.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, known for his signature mohawk-style haircut, recently debuted a noticeably shorter hairstyle at a family event over the weekend.

For years, Mahomes has sported the same haircut featuring tapered sides with longer curls on top, a look he maintained from his Texas Tech days all the way through his Super Bowl-winning NFL career.

However, new photos circulating on social media show that Patrick Mahomes has officially ditched his trademark style.

It’s been a rough stretch for Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback suffered a crushing defeat in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles, shattering the team’s hopes for a historic three-peat.

"I take all the blame for that. Those turnovers swing the moment of the game and they capitalized on them. They scored on one and got a touchdown immediately after another. That's 14 points I gave them. It's hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl," Mahomes said of his performance after the devastating loss. "There's things I have to get better at, and they kinda showed today on the biggest stage."

"I have to find a way this offseason to combat what defenses are doing to me. I can't make bad plays worse," he continued. "That's why I take ownership in this loss more than probably any loss in my entire career because I put us in the bad spot."

Just days later, he faced a personal loss with the passing of his grandfather, Randy Mahomes.

"Hard to find the words of holding my father's hand as he goes to Heaven. I know he's in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant!" Patrick Mahomes' mother, Randi Martin, wrote on her Instagram page.

In the wake of these challenges, Mahomes decided it was the perfect moment for a fresh start, debuting a brand-new hairstyle as he moves forward.

In now-viral images shared on platforms like Reddit and X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Mahomes is seen standing outside in a black collared T-shirt, black sunglasses, and a red flower pinned to his chest.

His once-voluminous curls have been significantly trimmed down, leaving him with a much shorter, sleeker hairstyle. The unexpected change has sparked plenty of reactions from fans, as Mahomes embraces a fresh start following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss.

"Time for new beginnings and a new chapter!" one fan said after seeing the photos. "QB1 is rocking a fresh cut ahead of the new season."

"He looks straight out of the 90s here!" another said. "I’m ready for greatness!!"

"We’re officially in a new era* now," a third wrote.

While the change may come as a surprise to some, Mahomes actually teased his plans for a new look last year. During Netflix’s 2023 docuseries "Quarterback," Mahomes revealed to his trainer, Bobby Stroupe, that he was ready for a change.

“Hair’s gone next year. Going with different hair next year,” he said. “I can’t have two kids and a Mohawk. ‘Cause I gotta be a dad at some point. Imagine being 40 years old with this haircut.”

True to his word, Mahomes has officially embraced the transformation, just in time for the next chapter of his life, both on and off the field.

Mahomes’ updated hairstyle comes at a time of major personal milestones.

In January, he and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye. The couple, who married in March 2022, are also parents to daughter Sterling, born in February 2021, and son Bronze, born in November 2022.
