Jennifer Lopez Reportedly 'Wants To Feel Carefree Again' After Ben Affleck Divorce

Jennifer Lopez is reportedly ready to let loose after her split from Ben Affleck.

The iconic entertainer is rumored to be preparing for a grand return to the dating scene, but this time with a more discerning eye and a focus on protecting her heart. 

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot in July 2022, 18 years after their initial break up in January 2004. The power couple, however, filed for divorce last August and finalized it in January 2025.

Sources suggest the superstar is embracing her newfound freedom as the second chapter with Affleck is officially closed. According to an insider, "She's back out there mixing in the Hollywood scene and plans to be front and center for the rest of awards season."

"She says she's done moping around and crying over her divorce, she wants to have fun again," the insider continued. Lopez's desire for a more lighthearted approach to life seems to be a priority at this stage.

The source added, "More than anything, she wants to feel carefree again, she wants to embrace her independence." In Touch reports that the singer is already back on the social scene after her divorce was finalized, and she is reportedly open to meeting someone new, particularly within the entertainment industry. 

While discussing her upcoming movie, "Kiss of the Spider Woman," at the Sundance Film Festival in January, the 55-year-old emphasized her belief in the power of love. Lopez emphatically stated that she believes "that love heals all divides." Describing the film, she added:

"It's about two different people who come together and find the humanity in one another and fall in love. To me, that is something that is special and needs to be seen. We are all just human. It's an important movie in this way."

Apart from her new film, sources noted that Lopez is also riding a wave of success with her recent project, "Unstoppable." They also added that the finalization of her divorce from Affleck seems to have provided a sense of closure and allowed her to move forward.

The Blast reported that the couple enlisted the expertise of renowned divorce attorney Laura Wasser to mediate their settlement. The absence of a prenup in celebrity divorces often leads to contentious battles over finances, with couples either splitting assets evenly or engaging in lengthy court disputes.

However, Lopez and Affleck managed to avoid this route, reaching an amicable resolution. Their agreement reportedly stipulates that each party will retain the assets they individually earned during their two-year marriage.

Furthermore, both Lopez and Affleck have waived any right to spousal support.  As they did not have any children together during this marriage, issues of child support and custody were reportedly not a factor in their settlement.

Lopez and Affleck's divorce settlement protected their substantial individual wealth. The agreement was particularly crucial for Affleck, whose stake in his thriving production company, Artists Equity, represented a significant financial asset.

Affleck co-founded Artists Equity with his close friend Matt Damon in November 2022 before getting married to Lopez. The production company has seen considerable success with films like "Air," "Unstoppable," and "The Accountant 2."

Their divorce settlement ensures that Affleck retains full ownership of his share of Artist Equity, meaning Lopez will not receive any portion of its value.

Similarly, the agreement safeguards Lopez's earnings from her successful film career during their marriage.  Her work in movies such as "This Is Me... Now," "The Mother," "Shotgun Wedding," and "Marry Me" will remain solely hers. 

Apart from settling their finances, the former lovebirds also came to an agreement over their home. The details of their $61 million property, purchased during their marriagewas settled, though the specifics of the agreement remain private.

The mansion is reportedly for sale, though it has not yet found a buyer. While their romantic relationship has come to an end, the two have maintained a friendship.  

Lopez and Affleck were reportedly seen together shortly before Christmas at the exclusive Soho House in West Hollywood, sharing a meal. An insider stated that Lopez and Affleck have "every intention of continuing to be in each other's lives despite not being romantically involved."

With her divorce finalized and her career soaring, Jennifer Lopez is ready to find joy and new connections on her own terms.
