It’s been two years since the world lost Tom Petty, and although the world is still reflecting on the loss of the music icon, his daughter is missing her father.
Annakim Violet Petty took to Instagram on Wednesday with a few photos of the late rockstar.
In one photo, Petty can be seen embracing a young Annakim next to a blowup dinosaur.
“So glad we were never normal,” she wrote, adding, “I miss my dad yet I’m sure he’s up there smiling … no regrets.”
Another shows Annakim holding a bunch of wildflowers, which is her nickname, alongside a very cool looking Petty.
She captioned the photo, “All always protect my family and personal space my goal for 2020 only respect.”
Since Petty died on October 2, 2017 of an accidental drug overdose, Annakim’s life has been filled with family drama, including an ongoing fight with her stepmother over creative control of her father’s musical legacy
She has also been a vocal advocate against the opioid epidemic, as 66-year-old Petty died from a massive opioid overdose of fentanyl and oxycodone.
Last week, Annakim began posting about the looming death anniversary and used it as a chance to talk about addiction and opioid abuse.
She shared a teary-eyed photo along with the caption, “I took this photo right before my dad
Died … I wanted to post a moment that was heavy And showed that life is out of my control.”
She added, “It’s two years October 2 … I don’t have anyone in my life on drugs including these 4 tier retro hipsters wearing bell bottoms made in China … the opioid crisis is real how are you affected by it.”
