Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is calling on Taylor Swift to shake off President Donald Trump’s latest dig after the Super Bowl 2025.
The 78-year-old president took to Truth Social to mock the pop star for getting booed by Philadelphia Eagles fans when she appeared on the Caesars Superdome jumbotron Sunday. Trump’s post read, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving.”
However, Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t letting that slide.
Jimmy Kimmel Defends Taylor Swift Against Trump’s Super Bowl 2025 Jabs
During his Monday night monologue, the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host set the record straight.
“Unlike you, she stayed for the whole game,” Kimmel quipped, referencing Trump’s early exit from the stadium at halftime.
He also clarified that the boos weren’t a political statement. “It was the Eagles fans who were booing,” he explained, referring to the team’s longtime rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays for the Chiefs.
Then, turning the tables on Trump, Kimmel added, “But you’re right, it’s all about you. It’s always all about you.”
Swift’s Reaction And Trump’s Own Boos
While the Grammy-winning singer was met with boos on Sunday, she didn’t seem too rattled. Cameras caught her throwing an intense side-eye when her face appeared on the big screen. According to a lip reader, she turned to her friend Ice Spice and asked, “Aw, what? What’s going on?”
But Swift wasn’t the only one who faced a mixed reaction. Trump himself was also booed during the New Orleans game.
One X (formerly Twitter) user joked that it was “pretty sh-tty” to show the politician during Jon Batiste’s national anthem performance. Another user noted, “Before the anthem started I said, ‘They’ll probably show Trump during this to make it less likely for him to get booed,’ but you could still clearly hear … a jumbled mess of cheers and boos.”
Trump, notably, was the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl during his term. However, based on the reception at this year’s game, it seems the crowd had mixed feelings about his presence.
As for Swift, she’s no stranger to controversy and online attacks, but as Kimmel suggested, she’s likely to shake it off.
Jimmy Kimmel's Feud With Donald Trump
The tension between Kimmel and Trump dates back to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Kimmel frequently used his platform to satirize Trump's policies and statements, which drew the ire of the then-presidential candidate. Over time, this evolved into a series of public exchanges, with Kimmel often dedicating segments of his show to critique Trump's actions and rhetoric.
During the 96th Academy Awards, which Kimmel hosted, he made a joke referencing Trump's legal troubles. Trump responded by criticizing Kimmel on social media, calling him untalented and attacking his ratings. This exchange reignited their ongoing feud.
More recently, Kimmel criticized Trump's proposal to redevelop the Gaza Strip, likening him to the villain from the "Saw" horror franchise and questioning the practicality and ethics of the plan.
Taylor Swift’s Quiet Support For Travis Kelce
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Swift reportedly worried that her star power might overshadow her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Given her A-list status and global influence, Swift was concerned that the attention surrounding her could distract from Kelce’s big moment.
"Taylor doesn't want to be the center of attention," a source told The Sun. "She just wants to support Travis and help him focus on the game."
The insider added that Swift was fully invested in Kelce’s success and his pursuit of another Super Bowl victory. "She wants Travis to enjoy his Super Bowl week experience and be at 110% for Sunday, as she is dreaming about him making Super Bowl history and reaching another dream of his, winning another Super Bowl and making a three-peat."
Despite the buzz surrounding her presence, Swift remained focused on being a supportive partner rather than a headline-stealer.
Erin Andrews Claps Back At Super Bowl Boycott Threats
While Swift was focused on supporting Kelce, sports broadcaster Erin Andrews had her own battle to fight as she addressed the online chatter about a potential Super Bowl boycott.
During a recent discussion, Andrews addressed the criticism surrounding the matchup, with some fans expressing disappointment over seeing the same teams return to the big game. "I was asked and have been asked multiple times, ‘Have you seen on Twitter that there’s hashtag boycott the Super Bowl because people don’t want to see these two teams play?’” Andrews said.
"You know what’s funny? The people in the world who say, ‘You’re a girl, you don’t know much about football.’ No, you don’t know anything about football,” she added.
In the end, Super Bowl LIX produced record numbers across various platforms and in terms of streaming.
