The co-hosts of "The View" rallied behind Travis Kelce after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end offered what they called a “diplomatic” response regarding President Donald Trump’s upcoming appearance at Super Bowl 2025.

Kelce made headlines earlier this week when he addressed the news that Trump would become the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, calling it a “great honor.”

While some saw Travis Kelce's remarks as respectful and nonpartisan, they also sparked backlash, particularly among fans of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, due to Trump’s past public criticisms of the pop star.

Despite the controversy, "The View" co-hosts saw no issue with Kelce’s words.

“This Taylor Swift fan is not mad about it,” Alyssa Farah Griffin stated during Friday’s episode. “I thought it was totally classy, a diplomatic answer, and it’s [a] big day.”

Griffin, who previously worked in political strategy, emphasized that the presidency itself is larger than any individual and noted that Kelce expressed pride in having the country's leader present for such a major event.

“I don’t know that it’s any kind of statement about Donald Trump specifically,” she continued. “He’d say the same thing if it was Joe Biden, Obama, George Bush. I thought it was a very classy statement and don’t make it a bigger story. It would’ve totally distracted from the game.”

Ana Navarro echoed that sentiment, pointing out that had Kelce made a negative comment about Trump, it could have led to backlash that might unfairly affect his team just as they prepare for one of the most important games of their careers.

Meanwhile, Sara Haines reminded viewers that the upcoming matchup is a historic moment for Kelce and his teammates, as they have the opportunity to become the first NFL team to secure three consecutive Super Bowl victories.

“This is the biggest game [and] anything else he said would have made it about something else and not about them,” Haines explained. She also pointed out that Kelce’s remarks reflected his patriotism rather than an endorsement of any political figure.

“He was essentially saying, ‘I love this country,’” she added.

Sunny Hostin weighed in as well, arguing that Kelce likely had Swift’s best interests in mind while carefully navigating his response. “He was being a diplomat, and I think he did the right thing by not giving into this madness,” Hostin remarked.

Whoopi Goldberg closed out the conversation with a simple but supportive statement. “The kid did well," she said.

Kelce had previously addressed Trump’s attendance during a press conference on Wednesday, maintaining that it was “awesome” and a “great honor” to have the president in attendance.

“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool,” he told reporters.

Trump, who is set to attend the game alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, will watch Kelce and the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

The discussion surrounding Kelce’s remarks comes months after Swift publicly endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris during her 2024 presidential bid against Trump. Following her endorsement, Trump made his feelings clear, posting on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Reports indicate that Trump will make history as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl when he arrives at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for the championship game. Sources also reveal that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are expected to accompany him at the event.

Despite the heated history, Kelce remained focused on the significance of the Super Bowl rather than the political implications surrounding it. Now, with the game just days away, all eyes will be on Kelce, but not for his words. Instead, for his performance on the field.
