Meek Mill is giving an eyewitness account of Wendy Williams' living conditions!
The rapper shared what he noticed about the former talk show host while they lived in the same complex nearly two years ago.
In 2022, Wendy Williams was placed under temporary financial guardianship following a claim made by her bank, Wells Fargo, in a New York court. The bank asserted that she was an incapacitated person who had fallen victim to undue influence and financial exploitation.
Meek Mill Shared An Image Of Wendy Williams To Support His Claims
Mill shared his observations about Williams' situation while she was under guardianship, claiming that she was often isolated.
According to the rapper, who lived in the same building as her in 2023, he was concerned when he saw her sitting alone, prompting him to question why she was not surrounded by support.
Mill accompanied his post with a photo of Wendy, who appears to be isolated in their building's lobby, seated on a bench. He describes her demeanor as being in a "daze," although the image does not convey that feeling clearly.
Mill was moved to share his experience about Wendy after a clip from the upcoming Tubi documentary, "Saving Wendy," by TMZ circulated online. Per TMZ, in the clip, Wendy expresses deep emotions as she talks about the possibility of not being able to visit her father in Florida for his 94th birthday.
Williams' Family May Get Access To Her After Possible Guardianship Law Review
Williams' worry about isolation from her loved ones may be a thing of the past sooner than expected, as The Blast shared last month that her matter caught a lawmaker's attention. A lawmaker from New York is reportedly advocating for her family to have occasional access to her.
The New York State Senator, identified as Anthony Palumbo, is reportedly reintroducing legislation to enhance guardianship laws, mainly focusing on family visitation rights within the state.
Palumbo explained that the law tagged as "Karilyn's Law" would allow families to visit loved ones by filing a motion with the court.
When a guardian files the necessary paperwork, they have 10 days to demonstrate to the court if the person wishing to visit is engaging in inappropriate behavior.
If the guardian does not present evidence of such conduct, the individual will be authorized to proceed with the visit. The lawmaker emphasized that this legislation aims to provide family members with a legitimate way to visit their loved ones under any conservatorship.
The Former Host Detailed Her Time In A Care Facility Under Her Current Conservatorship
The socialite, known for her expressive nature, participated in a phone interview earlier this year, during which she opened up about her experiences living under the conservatorship program.
During a conversation, she expressed her frustration about being unable to leave her care facility, describing it as high-grade custody.
"I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I'm saying? But I feel like I'm in prison. I'm in this place where the people are in their 90s and, their 80s, and 70s… There's something wrong with these people here on this floor," she declared.
Her niece, Alex, joined the call and backed up her claims regarding the care facility. Alex disclosed that her aunt was confined to a small room and was subjected to poor living conditions, with only a tiny window letting in inadequate sunlight.
The Mother-Of-One Described Her Experience As Emotional Abuse
Williams expressed her frustration with the establishment, claiming it had isolated her from her family and restricted her communication to a one-way phone access.
While she could initiate calls to her loved ones, they could not reach her whenever they wished. She also highlighted her lack of access to personal devices like a phone, iPad, or laptop, further compounding her isolation.
Additionally, she described her experience in the care facility, mentioning that she had engaged a few "nursemaids" responsible for delivering unfamiliar pills to her.
During a conversation with host Charlamagne tha God, he cautioned her against taking these questionable medications, stressing their potential harm to her mental health.
Williams acknowledged that she had taken only two pills so far and characterized her conservatorship experience as a form of "emotional abuse."
She expressed her worry about possibly missing her father's 94th birthday, feeling trapped by a lack of freedom to move, and having no access to her bank account.
Wendy Williams' Attorney, Roberta Kaplan, Insisted She Needed Medical Help To Function
After discussing with Charlamagne Tha God, Williams' attorney, Roberta Kaplan, took the opportunity to clarify some of her client's statements.
She specifically addressed and dismissed the claims regarding her assertion of not being "cognitively impaired." The attorney emphasized that the statements made during the interview should be viewed cautiously.
Kaplan clarified that these remarks did not accurately reflect the American television personality's overall health, as she has periods of clarity and confusion.
The legal representative expressed concern about her client's condition, which made the judge deem her unable to make independent legal and financial decisions.
Kaplan noted that due to the progressive nature of frontal lobe dementia, the individual would require ongoing, intensive adult care for the remainder of her life.
Meek Mills's fresh account gives further credibility to the claim of Wendy Williams's poor mental health.
