In the wake of reboots like Magnum P.I., Lethal Weapon, and MacGuyver, it was only a matter of time before Walker, Texas Ranger was updated to roundhouse kick a whole new generation of bad guys. Deadline reports that a reboot, called simply Walker, is coming to CBS (or The CW) and will star Jared Padalecki as the titular hero.

In his first major role after what will be fifteen seasons of Supernatural, Padalecki will be Cordell Walker, a widowed father of two who returns to his hometown of Austin, Texas, after two years undercover. He will reportedly have a female partner and will find that "there’s even more work to be done at home."

Deadline explains that the core of the show will be largely the same as the original, but will be updated to meet a more modern sensibility.

"In a nod to the original series, Walker and his new partner — one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history — are the modern day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules."

Will you be checking out another reboot? Can you imagine anyone filling Chuck Norris's shoes?
