According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning after Maloney, who was allegedly intoxicated, got into an argument with his fiancée while driving home from the New York-New York Hotel and Casino.
The dispute reportedly began when Maloney’s fiancée asked him repeatedly about her missing jacket. The report states that Maloney became agitated, called her a “b-tch”, and then retrieved a handgun from the glove compartment before stepping out of the vehicle.
His fiancée told police she heard a gunshot, prompting her to roll down the window and call out for him. Maloney, however, had already walked away on foot.
As she ran after him, she heard a second gunshot and witnessed him collapse with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. She immediately called 911, but responding officers pronounced Maloney dead at the scene.

The report notes that the tragic moment was captured on security footage from two Las Vegas casinos: MGM Grand and New York-New York. Police also discovered self-harm scars on Maloney’s arms, indicating that he had previously struggled with suicidal thoughts.

With the group, he recorded the 2005 album "Tomorrow’s Another Day" and spent a decade touring before embarking on a solo career.
His debut solo album, "Where I’ve Been," was produced by Sean O’Dwyer, known for his work with The Black Crowes, Roger Waters, and Pink Floyd.
Between 2010 and 2013, Maloney’s original songs, including “Hillbilly,” “Michigan Moonlight,” and “Living with No Directions,” were played on country radio stations in Michigan, Nevada, Colorado, and California.
