Nick Viall and his wife, Natalie Joy, have shared the devastating news of their pregnancy loss, opening up about the emotional toll on the latest episode of the "Viall Files" podcast.
During Wednesday’s episode, a tearful Natalie Joy revealed that she was “actively miscarrying,” calling it the biggest heartbreak of her life.

Struggling with the overwhelming grief while still caring for their 11-month-old daughter, River, Joy admitted she has "never felt so empty" and feels "dead inside.”
“It sucks because I have to be so alive for River,” she explained. “I have to be silly and goofy and funny and play with her. Then, I have this overwhelming guilt that when I’m with [my husband], I can’t also do that. I’m sad that the only version [he gets] right now is this broken person.”
Despite the unimaginable pain, Joy praised Viall for being her rock through the ordeal.
“You did everything right, which I feel is impossible to do in those situations,” she said. “Yet, you managed, and you still continue to.”
Natalie Joy Opens Up About Pregnancy Loss

Joy said that she knew from the beginning that something was wrong after experiencing spot bleeding for a while, though she was in denial about what was happening.
“It just got heavier and heavier,” she said. “I went to go pee, and it was like I gave birth. It was like I did, essentially.”
Overcome with emotion, she described the traumatic moment when she screamed and cried, and Viall ran into the bathroom. “How [am I] supposed to stand up and flush this baby down the toilet?” she questioned.
After the couple showered with River, Viall gathered the remains so they could properly mourn and bury the baby.
“He was able to retrieve the baby and everything that came with it,” she revealed. “[He] set it aside so [we] can mourn the loss and … bury [our] baby in a place [we] can always connect with.”
Natalie Joy’s Heart-Wrenching Revelation

Joy, who has not shared how far along she was in her pregnancy, described the night of the miscarriage as the hardest of her life, adding that she “wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”
As she continues to grieve, she admitted feeling anger toward her own body for “letting it go”, desperately wondering why this happened to her. “It’s going to take a long time to heal from this,” she said.
Joy continued to speak on the emotional toll of the loss and her hope that sharing her story will bring comfort to others who have experienced similar pain.
She described the experience as “raw”, explaining that she and Nick Viall decided to film the episode to let other grieving mothers know they are not alone. “We wanted to tell the mothers who have felt [the] same feeling that they are not alone in their emotions,” she said.
Joy also addressed the hurtful speculation she faced on social media, warning Instagram followers about the pain their words can inflict. “Each message felt like a punch in the gut,” she admitted, referencing fans who had been speculating about her pregnancy before she was ready to share her loss.
Keeping Their Baby's Memory Alive

As she processes her grief, Joy emphasizes her desire to keep the memory of her baby alive, making it clear that she doesn’t want the pregnancy to be forgotten.
“I just also don’t want to forget this baby,” she shared. “I don’t want time to go on and for this baby to have just been like a blip in our lives. I want River to be able to watch this back and see her parents’ love for her sibling that could have been here.”
Joy and Viall became parents in February 2024 when they welcomed their daughter, River. Just two months later, their infant daughter was by their side as they tied the knot in Georgia after nearly four years together.
Natalie Joy Previously Opened Up About Wanting More Kids

Prior to the miscarriage, Joy had expressed her desire to have more children, telling Page Six in June 2024 that she was “absolutely not one and done” and dreamed of giving River siblings.
“We definitely [want] three, four, as many as God will bless us with, for sure,” she said. However, she also noted that she and Viall had recently experienced a “pregnancy scare” and weren’t planning on expanding their family immediately.
Now, as Joy and Viall navigate the grief of their loss, they are focusing on healing, honoring their baby’s memory, and leaning on each other for support.
