Kirkconnell Previously Addressed Rumors Of A Breakup

Kirkconnell had lengthy words of reassurance for a fan who dropped a comment about reports of trouble rocking the couple's boat.

In 2023, The Blast reported that the curious fan wrote, "Glad to see you posting more alone despite people's questions. Women are more than their adjacency to men. I'm here for your individuality era single or no." Kirkconnell then took her time to establish some truths to the commenter. In her words:

"I think we've been through so much stuff at this point that nothing phases us. I get it- because we're together so much so whenever our schedules don't line up or whenever we have our own things going on, I get where people come from."

She acknowledged that the comments come from a place of love as people liked them so much as a couple, and "in a way, it was a little flattering." Kirkconnell continued that it can be easy for her to forget there is an outside presence witnessing her relationship with James.

"But also, at the end of the day. we're normal people [in] a normal relationship. It's kind ofcrazy sometimes when you see, you know, just how invested people are. In such a quick way, too. You're like, 'It's been a week! I haven't posted, in like, eight days, relax!'" Kirkconnell concluded.

James Did Not Expect The Huge Impact Of Being The First Black 'Bachelor'

When James received a call to join the franchise in 2020, the celebrity had no idea his life was about to take a 180.

As shared by The Blast in 2022, James was unaware of the challenges awaiting him in his 'Bachelor' experience and its impact on the franchise. As the first Black "Bachelor"' he had to prepare for a unique situation few had faced.

He noted that holding the coveted title of the first Black "Bachelor" was a role he had to quickly dive into without having any sort of playbook for guidance. On navigating the early days of his season, James shared:

"I wasn't really asking the right questions, or I guess, I didn't think that was something that hadn't been done."

He expressed shock at eventually learning that no one had stepped in his big shoes as the first Black lead on the show. According to him, "I've seen a bunch of Black people come through the franchise that I guessed I assumed... [the role had been filled before.]"

The Author Finally Came To Terms With His 'Historic' Casting

James's role as the first Black "Bachelor" profoundly transformed him and significantly impacted his life. The reality star joined Bachelor Nation to find lasting love. He expressed that he was missing that connection in his life. The cultural context of the time also helped him understand his unique position

In discussing the absence of a Black "Bachelor" lead until his season, James noted, "They hadn't because it was at the right time in the country where we were going through everything that we were going through from a racial standpoint..."

The rise of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, especially after George Floyd's murder, prompted Bachelor Nation to consider how the historically white franchise would adapt to the changing cultural climate.

Matt James And Rachael Kirkconnell On The Show

James faced challenges as the series lead, particularly involving contestant Kirkconnell from Georgia. They had a strong connection until old photos of Kirkconnell at an antebellum South-themed party surfaced, leading to a brief split.

James reflected on the impact of that situation on their relationship, stating, "We spent enough time talking about that stuff. I hate beating a dead horse, and everything's played out how it's played out, and there's no need [to] go back to something that we've talked so much about." He added:

"Because, unfortunately, those types of conversations overshadowed context I would have liked to have been applied to the season that would've answered a bunch of questions..."

The businessman said he would instead focus on themes that could help people, believing revisiting certain topics wouldn't benefit anyone.

Since the Instagram statement, Matt James has not answered any questions about his split from Rachael Kirkconnell.
