Sam Asghari Breaks Silence On The 'Weirdest' Part Of His Relationship With Britney Spears

Actor Sam Asghari is opening up on the "weirdest" part of his relationship with pop star Britney Spears.

The former couple met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and became engaged in September 2021, two months before her controversial 13-year conservatorship was struck down by a judge.

The two tied the knot in June 2022, but their marriage quickly came to an end in August 2023 when the former personal trainer filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. A judge finalized the divorce a year later.

The “Toxic” singer’s conservatorship lasted from February 2008 to November 2021. During that time, much of her career and personal life was controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. It is still unclear how much Asghari participated in the conservatorship, but he discussed it briefly when appearing on Kate and Oliver Hudson's Sibling Rivalry podcast on January 27.

“One day I started learning about what the conservatorship is, and that's when I was like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought I was in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?’” he recalled. “That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I've witnessed in my life.”

Even though the “Crossroads” actress’ decisions were heavily controlled by her father and management team, Asghari said that the “best thing” that he could do during that difficult time in her life was to provide emotional support for her and be there for her when she needed him.

“I think the best thing to do is to provide support in that moment and that's what I did, I provided as much as I could,” he recalled. “This was my experience in life that I had to go through very gently because if you do anything wrong, you say the wrong thing...”

He let his voice trail off and decided not to finish his sentence, but concluded that he is “always” going to be “grateful and happy” that his relationship with the Princess of Pop “ever even happened.”

Although he filed for divorce in August 2023, it was not finalized until May 2024, and, as per California law, they were not declared legally single until December 2024. However, by that time, the “Special Ops: Lioness” actor already had a new love in his life: real estate agent Brooke Irvine.

On January 1, he took to Instagram to wish a “Happy New Year to All” and shared photos of him posing with his new girlfriend. The photos featured them on vacation at several destination spots; however, many fans expressed outrage over his new relationship and alleged that he would not be famous if it wasn’t for his relationship with Britney Spears.

“He only used Britney to get her money, so sad for this guy but don’t forget that karma exists,” one user commented on his post, leading another to respond, “I’m not even sure if it was money he was after. He wanted the publicity.”

“It’s sad that you never loved Britney… just wanted to become famous because of her,” another follower alleged.

In March 2024, the actor spoke to Peoplemagazine about his high-profile divorce and expressed how grateful he was for their relationship.

“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on,” he said at the time. “I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point, they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other.”

He went on to say, “That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”

For her part, Britney Spears is focusing on her relationship with her sons. In one Instagram post, she gave her son Jayden a smooch on the cheek and revealed that he had spent Christmas with her at her home in California, despite her sons moving to Hawaii with their father, Kevin Federline, last year.

“Best Christmas of my life !!! I haven’t seen my boys in 2 years !!! Tears of joy and literally in shock everyday koo koo crazy so in love and blessed !!! I’m speechless thank you Jesus !!!” she captioned the post.

In a follow-up Instagram post, she shared another photo of her son posing outside. “Mine forever !!! It’s weird we’re like twins but he’s a boy and I’m a girl !!! He’s mine I hadn’t seen him in 2 and half years or maybe 3 !!! I’m in shock !!!” she gushed. “He came back and he feels older and smarter than me !!! He’s a man and I cry everyday of my life because of the miracle and genius he is !!! When he plays the whole earth shakes !!!”

She later shared a third Instagram post showing him opening presents on Christmas morning with the caption, “Mamas deserve waaay more respect than they get these days !!!”
