Katy Perry is putting her overprotective gears on and is moving to stop her beau, Orlando Bloom, from appearing in court.

The pop star's legal team is working to ensure her partner is left out of the legal tussle between her enterprise and a veteran Carl Westcott.

Katy Perry's business manager, Bernie Gudvi, was sued by 85-year-old veteran Carl Westcott, who claimed he sold his Santa Barbara home to the singer under heavy medication.

Katy's team demanded her fiancé should not be forced to testify at the upcoming trial involving the artist and Carl.

Last November, according to sources close to the Carl family, Carl's legal team subpoenaed Orlando to testify, believing he had relevant information about his involvement with Katy.

The motion was filed on Wednesday, January 22, asking an L.A. judge to rule that Orlando does not have to appear at the upcoming trial scheduled for February 25 despite being served a subpoena.

Katy's business manager and lawyers argued that Orlando lacked relevant knowledge about the case and the compensation owed to Bernie for the July 2020 real property sale contract.

They added that the damage to the property had occurred "before [Bernie] took ownership last year, or how to estimate and assess the cost of those damages."

Bernie's lawyer stated that expert testimony from the nineteen licensed contractors who inspected the property was appropriate. Neither Carl nor the Court requires testimony from Katy's partner, who lacks relevant knowledge or expertise regarding the property's condition before Bernie acquired it.

According to In Touch it is believed that the only claimed reason for the subpoena was that he witnessed "the scope of repairs and other work at the house." The attorneys added:

"It was one thing to seek testimony from [Katy] despite her limited knowledge of relevant facts in the damages phase; it is another to drag into these proceedings [Orlando], who has no demonstrated knowledge of any relevant facts and was not the subject of any discovery. [Katy's] family should be off-limits."

Carl claimed that he sealed the deal with Katy's team for $15 million in his lawsuit but soon rescinded his agreement to give the house away at such a cheap price.

The veteran claimed he called to pull out of the deal once his medication wore off, but Katy's team was not ready to back out of the agreement. In his filing, Carl demanded that the court order the sale unenforceable during the first phase of the 2023 trial.

The court ruled the deal valid and ordered the veteran to give the singer the keys, but it set a phase two trial in which Katy will testify about her alleged damages.

The Blast noted that shortly after the real estate trial commenced, efforts to advance the Protecting Elder Realty for Retirement Years Act, commonly known as the Katy Perry Act, gained significant momentum.

This crucial bill aims to address the pressing issue of elder financial abuse, particularly concerning property and real estate transactions.

Key provisions of the Act include a crucial 72-hour cool-down period allowing either party involved in a contract for the conveyance of a personal residence—when one party is over 75—to rescind the agreement without any penalties.

This measure is a strong step forward in safeguarding elders' rights, as outlined on the dedicated website for the Act.

The veteran's daughter-in-law, Kameron, rose to support the octogenarian with a #huntingtonsdiseaseawareness hashtag regarding the inherited condition that caused Carl's nerve cells to deteriorate over time.

She detailed the process to her then 382k followers through her Instagram story revealing some underlying health issues Carl has been struggling with in the process.

"We're on trial day two and I just wanted to explain the obvious. The other side is basically saying he was in the right state of mind to sign the document that he signed," Kameron began.

She referenced her father-in-law's age as the reason for his uncoordinated acts at the deal closing. "And again, he is 84-years-old. At the time, he still had Huntington's disease, dementia, and within that, you have impulsive behaviors," Kameron noted.

Kameron shared that her father-in-law changed his mind after taking action, admitting he did not intend to sign off on the real estate deal. She concluded her monologue by emphasizing the need to protect and show kindness to the elders.

"We're just here fighting for his justice, and I just hope in the future this doesn't happen to anybody else's parents. Just horrible to have to go through this. We have to protect our elders," Kameron declared.

She stressed the need always to consider the well-being of vulnerable elderly even if their looks might be deceiving. Following reports of Katy's real estate scandal, Carl claimed he was on painkillers when he sold the 1930s home to the singer and her partner, affecting his understanding of the deal.
