Demi Moore is basking in the glow of her first-ever Oscar nomination at the age of 62, marking a major milestone in her illustrious career.
The star has already garnered critical acclaim for her role in the dark comedy "The Substance," earning some of the best reviews of her career, along with a Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
Now, Demi Moore, known for her iconic roles in "Ghost," "St. Elmo’s Fire," and "A Few Good Men," has something else to celebrate.
Demi Moore Celebrates First Oscar Nomination For Acclaimed Role In 'The Substance'
On Thursday, January 23, Moore’s name was announced as one of the five nominees for Best Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards. The news left her overjoyed and deeply moved.
“Being nominated for an Oscar is an incredible honor, and these last few months have been beyond my wildest dreams,” Moore said in a heartfelt statement, per ABC. “Truly, there are no words to fully express my joy and overwhelming gratitude for this recognition—not only for me but for what this film represents. I am deeply humbled.”
Demi Moore Takes A Moment To Acknowledge The LA Wildfires
Moore also took the opportunity to acknowledge the challenges facing her Los Angeles community amidst the ongoing devastation caused by local wildfires.
“This is a time of incredible contrasts, and right now, my heart is with my friends, family, neighbors, and community here in L.A. The fires have devastated so many lives, but to see the way our community has united leaves me in awe of the resilience and compassion that defines us,” she added. “This moment is a reminder of how incredible we are when we stand together.”
Demi Moore's Role In 'The Substance'
In "The Substance," Moore delivers a gripping performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a once-popular fitness show host who is unceremoniously fired by her unsettling boss (played by Dennis Quaid) in favor of younger talent. Elisabeth, desperate to regain her former glory, turns to a mysterious drug called "the Substance," which gives her the power to create a younger version of herself, Sue, portrayed by Margaret Qualley.
The two women must share a single life, alternating weeks in the public eye. But their fragile arrangement spirals into chaos when their balance is disrupted, leading to darkly comedic and horrifying consequences.
She has received widespread praise for her fearless portrayal of Elisabeth’s desperation and transformation. Critics have hailed her performance as a career-defining achievement.
Demi Moore Wins Her First Golden Globe
Moore, whose illustrious career spans over four decades, was overcome with emotion as she accepted her first-ever Golden Globe award at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now,” Moore said as she took the stage, visibly moved. “I’ve been doing this a long time, like over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor.”
During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Moore reflected on a pivotal moment early in her career when a producer labeled her a “popcorn” actress, a term that left her doubting her potential for recognition.
“At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have—that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged,” she shared. “And I bought in, and I believed that. That corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I’ve done what I was supposed to do.”
But Moore’s journey took an unexpected turn when she received the script for "The Substance," a film she described as “magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, and absolutely bonkers.”
“And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this script come across my desk, and the universe told me that you’re not done,” Moore said, her voice filled with gratitude and determination.
