Wendy Williams' conservatorship may usher in a new era for guardianship laws in New York, and her family will be thrilled.

The former talk show host's drama amid her ongoing conservatorship has reportedly gained the attention of some heavy pushers in the hallowed chambers, and it may lead to a bigger change.

Wendy Williams had previously shared that her friends launched a fundraiser for her this January in hopes that they will gather enough for her to gain her independence.

The former MC's situation has now fallen into the hands of a New York lawmaker who has taken up the cause to get her family to gain access to her from time to time.

The lawmaker, Anthony Palumbo, a New York State senator, shared that he is reintroducing a piece of legislation that would upgrade the guardianship laws regarding family visitation in the state.

Palumbo explained that the law tagged as "Karilyn's Law" would allow families to visit loved ones by filing a motion with the court.

Upon filing, the guardian would then have 10 days to show the court if the person intending to visit is displaying inappropriate conduct, and if not, they will be cleared to carry out the visit.

The lawmaker added that the law is put in place to ensure family members have a legitimate means of visiting their loved ones under any form of conservatorship.

Per TMZ, Palumbo sees it as a step in the right direction, as it was one of the major things lacking under the existing framework.

Quite the expressive one, the socialite granted a phone interview earlier in the year where she discussed what life felt like under her conservatorship program. The Blast shared details from the conversation where she claimed she could not exit her care facility as it was high-grade custody. In her words:

"I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I'm saying? But I feel like I'm in prison. I'm in this place where the people are in their 90s and, their 80s, and 70s… There's something wrong with these people here on this floor."

Williams' niece, Alex, joined the call and corroborated her claims about the care facility. Alex revealed her aunt was kept in a small room and forced to live under terrible conditions with just a single window that supplied insufficient sunlight.

Williams also accused the establishment of isolating her from family and leaving her with a one-way phone access. She explained that she could put a call through to her loved ones, but they could not communicate with her at will. Williams also lamented her lack of access to a phone, an iPad or a laptop.

The TV personality recalled engaging a few "nursemaids" at her care facility who do nothing but deliver unknown pills to her room on schedule. The host, Charlamagne tha God, promptly warned her against taking suspicious pills as it would do more harm than good to her mental health.

Williams replied in the affirmative, stating that she had only taken two pills so far before doubling down on her conservatorship experience as "emotional abuse."

She also voiced her concern over the chances of her missing out on her father's 94th birthday, as she had zero access to freedom of movement and her bank account.

Following her talk session with Charlamagne Tha God, Williams' attorney, Roberta Kaplan, clarified some of her client's narratives. She began by dismissing her claims about not being "cognitively impaired."

The attorney advised that her coordinated delivery while she granted the interview should be taken with a pinch of salt. Kaplan insisted that it was not a measure of her overall health as she experienced lucid and non-lucid days.

The legal rep noted that her condition prompted the judge to find her incapable of making independent legal and financial decisions. She added that the American television personality would require intensive adult care for the rest of her life because of the degenerative nature of her disease.

Kaplan explained that since there was no cure for frontal lobe dementia, Williams would need all the help she could get from people around her and health workers.

Before Williams hopped on the phone call, her friends reportedly launched a GoFundMe account on behalf of her family. The fundraiser, which was launched on January 15, was intended to help her raise enough funds to free herself from conservatorship.

These concerned friends hoped to hit a $50,000 goal and explained in the description that the money would go into supporting legal expenses required to help Williams get freedom and return to her home in Florida.

"For far too long, Wendy has faced the challenges of being unjustly placed under guardianship and labeled as incapacitated, despite her strong will and determination to live her life independently," the star's friends declared in the statement.

Should the law be passed, Wendy Williams' loved ones would certainly be delighted.
