Justin Baldoni has sued his "It Ends With Us" co-star, Blake Lively, and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for allegedly trying to "destroy" him.
The actor filed a $400 million lawsuit just days after he called on Disney and Marvel execs to preserve documents to prove Reynolds made a mockery of him in his film, "Deadpool and Wolverine."
Justin Baldoni was already sued last year by Blake Lively, who accused him of sexual harassment and creating a toxic work environment.
Justin Baldoni Sues Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds
In a new twist to the legal drama between Lively and Baldoni, the latter has his co-star with a hefty new lawsuit, alleging that the actress and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, tried to "destroy" him.
According to legal documents obtained by Variety, Baldoni filed a 179-page complaint in the Southern District of New York, accusing Lively and Reynolds of civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy.
“At bottom, this is not a case about celebrities sniping at each other in the press,” Baldoni’s lawsuit reads. “This is a case about two of the most powerful stars in the world deploying their enormous power to steal an entire film right out of the hands of its director and production studio… When Plaintiffs have their day in court, the jury will recognize that even the most powerful celebrity cannot bend the truth to her will.”
The actor is seeking damages of at least $400 million. This comes shortly after Baldoni's lawyer sent out a litigation hold letter to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Disney CEO Bob Iger, and director Tim Miller regarding the actor's "anticipated claims" against Reynolds, Lively, and other unnamed parties.
The letter demanded that the studio executives keep "any and all documents relating to the development of the Nicepool character" and "communications relating to the development, writing, and filming of storylines and scenes featuring Nicepool."
Justin Baldoni's Lawyer Says Blake Lively Will 'Regret' Suing The Actor
Baldoni's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, released a statement along with the actor's lawsuit, claiming that Lively will not win the court battle and will "regret" suing his client.
He said, “This lawsuit is a legal action based on an overwhelming amount of untampered evidence detailing Blake Lively and her team’s duplicitous attempt to destroy Justin Baldoni, his team and their respective companies by disseminating grossly edited, unsubstantiated, new and doctored information to the media."
Freedman continued, “It is clear based on our own all out willingness to provide all complete text messages, emails, video footage and other documentary evidence that was shared between the parties in real time, that this is a battle she will not win and will certainly regret.”
The Actor's Lawyer Claims Blake Lively Is Exploiting 'Actual Victims'
Still, in his statement, Freedman called out Lively's sexual harassment lawsuit, implying that the actress has been exploiting real victims of harassment for her personal gain.
“Blake Lively was either severely misled by her team or intentionally and knowingly misrepresented the truth,” Freedman noted. “Ms. Lively will never again be allowed to continue to exploit actual victims of real harassment solely for her personal reputation gain at the expense of those without power.
He continued, "Let’s not forget, Ms. Lively and her team attempted to bulldoze reputations and livelihoods for heinously selfish reasons through their own dangerous manipulation of the media before even taking any actual legal action."
The lawyer concluded, "We know the truth, and now the public does too. Justin and his team have nothing to hide, documents do not lie.”
Justin Baldoni Sued The New York Times For Its Coverage Of Blake Lively's Lawsuit
Prior to suing Lively and Reynolds directly, Baldoni began his legal retaliation by suing the New York Times for publishing a story on the actress' sexual harassment lawsuit.
Baldoni filed a $250 million libel lawsuit against the publication, claiming that The Times pushed the Lively's "unverified and self-serving narrative."
The actor and his lawyer, Freedman, noted that her lawsuit contained inaccurate information and text messages that had been taken out of context and passed off as evidence of harassment.
Baldoni's lawyer blasted the actress at the time, claiming she may have been misled or deliberately put out false information.
Justin Baldoni's Lawyer Said He Will Expose Blake Lively's 'Pattern Of Bullying'
Freedman previously revealed that he planned to release "evidence" that would expose Lively's "pattern of bullying."
According to People Magazine, Freedman released a statement on Tuesday, January 7, claiming Lively and her team were the instigators of a "vicious attack" against his client.
"It is painfully ironic that Blake Lively is accusing Justin Baldoni of weaponizing the media when her own team orchestrated this vicious attack by sending The New York Times grossly edited documents prior to even filing the complaint," Freedman said.
"We are releasing all of the evidence which will show a pattern of bullying and threats to take over the movie," the lawyer continued. "None of this will come as a surprise because, consistent with her past behavior, Blake Lively used other people to communicate those threats and bully her way to get whatever she wanted. We have all the receipts and more."
