Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are reportedly on the brink of a "messy" divorce amid the actor's PDA-filled relationship with girlfriend Sutton Foster.
The estranged couple announced in 2023 that they were going their separate ways but have hit a roadblock in sorting out the divorce because they seemingly didn't sign a prenup when they got married.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness kept things going in their marriage for nearly three decades and have two children they adopted over the course of their union.
Hugh Jackman And Deborra-Lee Furness Might Be Heading For A 'Messy' Divorce
Jackman and Furness are reportedly heading for a "messy" divorce following the breakdown of their 27-year marriage.
The exes announced in 2023 that they had "decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," but the absence of a prenup in their marriage is proving to be a bone of contention.
According to the Daily Mail, the pair had delayed filing for a divorce because of their decision to forgo signing a prenup, which proves tricky as they try to divide a reported $250 million fortune.
Sources, however, told the news outlet that they plan to file in New York "in the next couple of weeks" and put this chapter behind them.
"One of the biggest reasons why they haven't yet filed is that they never had a prenup," a source close to Jackman said. "When they got married, they thought it would be forever. Who doesn't? At the time, neither of them expected Hugh's career to get as enormous as it has."
The source continued, "Because there was no prenup, and he made a fortune during their marriage, this divorce is not going to be cut and dry. It may even get messy because the stakes are high."
"A lot of moving parts need to be worked out and there is a huge amount of money involved," the insider added.
The Estranged Couple Has A Lot Of Assets To Share Amid Their Divorce
The ex-couple reportedly wants to make their divorce "as easy as possible." However, after nearly three decades and the celebrity status of one partner increasing astronomically, "it's not quite that easy."
Jackman and Furness met on the Australian TV show "Correlli" back in 1995 and got married in Melbourne a year later.
They went on to adopt their two children, Oscar and Ava, before amassing massive wealth thanks to the actor's hit role as Wolverine and their thriving business empire.
According to the Daily Mail, the pair paid $21 million in 2008 for a three-story apartment in the Meier Towers building in New York City's West Village and later listed it for $38.9 million in 2022. It remains unclear if the property has been sold.
Their other real estate properties include a $3.5 million, 2.5-acre property in East Hampton, New York, a $5.9 million Bondi beach house in Sydney, Australia, and a $21 million penthouse in Manhattan's affluent Chelsea neighborhood, which they bought one year before they split.
"Hugh and Deborra-Lee are cordial to each other, but they are no longer friends," the source explained, referencing how difficult the property division could get. "They put their differences aside to co-parent and he cares a lot about his children."
Hugh Jackman Shared A Passionate Kiss With Sutton Foster
It comes after the "Logan" star went public with his blossoming romance with Sutton Foster as they were seen holding hands on a date in Santa Monica.
After softly launching their relationship, the pair were pictured kissing while in the car at a San Fernando In-N-Out.
Foster was seen cradling Jackman's face while they waited to get their food, and once they were out of the car, they packed on the PDA again, with the actor wrapping his hands around her and pulling her in for a kiss before warmly hugging her.
It was a casual outing for the pair as the actor wore a black tee and jeans, paired with spectacles, while Foster wore an oversize blouse and jeans with sneakers. Many Internet users, however, slammed him for not being considerate of his ex-wife's feelings.
Deborra-Lee Furness Felt 'Relieved' To See Hugh Jackman And Sutton Foster Go Public
A source recently disclosed that Furness felt "relieved" after seeing pictures of Jackman and Foster being cozy after their dinner date in Santa Monica.
Furness was "plagued with suspicions" for months as sources close to her confirmed that her fears about Jackman's relationship with Foster were warranted.
"Deborra-Lee feels a sense of relief, to be honest with you," a source told the Daily Mail. "She has been plagued with suspicions. She was told it wasn't true, and that they were nothing more than close friends who worked together."
"But something in her heart told her that this was not true," the insider went on. "She trusted her intuition and her intuition was right. She finally feels at ease after getting confirmation that her fears and suspicions were warranted."
The source added that Furness "can now fully close this chapter and move on" as she "has nothing more to say about her ex-husband and his 'close friend' Sutton."
The Actor's Romance With Sutton Foster Has 'Rejuvenated' Him
The source further noted that Jackman's close pals have observed him become "rejuvenated" thanks to his romance with Foster, his co-star in "The Music Man."
"Hugh's close friends have seen a rejuvenated glow to him, and that is all thanks to Sutton," the source explained, adding that the couple "bonded over their individual, marital struggles but didn't strike up a romance until he was out of the heartbreak of his relationship ending."
"Things had been very rudimentary between Deborra-Lee and Hugh after the pandemic," the insider added. "Their relationship wasn't the same. He had such a special connection with Deborra-Lee, but that is now over, and he has to do what is right for him."
