Chance the Rapper's relationship status will soon change to divorcee after reaching a favorable settlement with his estranged wife, Kirsten Corley.
The "No Problem" hitmaker and his former lover are on their way to achieving one of the fastest divorce finalizations, as long as a judge signs off on their agreement.
Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley began working on ending their ties legally nearly a month ago. The artist's estranged wife filed the papers eight months after the once-beloved couple announced their separation in a joint statement.
Chance The Rapper And Kirsten Corley Achieve Fair Resolution Of Their Differences
According to new reports, Chance and Kirsten informed the court that they had settled their differences last week. They filed the documents in Cook County, Illinois, with the rapper's estranged wife confirming that their nearly six-year marriage was irretrievably broken.
She noted that they had been separated for more than six months and accepted the undisclosed terms of their agreement as a fair and equitable resolution.
The former couple began dating in 2013 and married in a civil ceremony in Chicago in December 2018. Three months after their Chicago ceremony, Chance and Kirsten celebrated their union in a lavish, star-studded event in Newport Beach.
They welcomed two daughters, Kensli and Marli, whose custody arrangement has not been revealed. The estranged spouses are currently waiting for a judge to sign off on their divorce, per TMZ.
The Former Couple Announced Their Separation In A Joint Statement
Last December, The Blast reported that Kirsten had filed to end her marriage to Chance eight months after they announced their split in a joint statement. The details of her divorce filing were not disclosed then, so it was unclear whether she made any demands for spousal and child support.
Chance and Kirsten broke the news of their breakup in April on their Instagram Stories, revealing they had been separated for some time. They assured fans the decision was mutual, addressing the end of their marriage from an amicable perspective, writing:
"After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the same time we spent together."
The Estranged Spouses Vowed To Raise Their Children As A Team
In their joint statement, Chance and Kirsten reflected positively on their marriage and credited their daughters as the highlight of their time together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters whom we will continue to raise together," the estranged spouses declared.
They concluded their message with a plea for privacy, imploring fans to give them time and space to transition from lovers to exes. Naturally, Chance and Kirsten's separation sparked numerous speculations and theories about what caused the end of their union.
Their breakup got some wondering if the "Stars Out" rapper's infidelity scandal had played a role in their split. The drama happened two years ago when Chance celebrated his 30th birthday at the 2023 Carnival in Jamaica and got too close and personal with a sexy model.
Inside The Rapper's Cheating Drama
Chance faced immense backlash for his birthday bash after he was captured on video enjoying a provocative dance from Mela Millz. The pair threw all boundaries out the window, with the media personality twerking on the rapper while he repeatedly smacked her derrière.
Their closeness sparked cheating rumors, with social media users displeased by Chance's lack of loyalty to his then-wife. However, the entertainer's rep claimed there was no need for concern, declaring that Kirsten did not mind her beau having fun.
"Everyone has their moments, but they're all good," the rep said. Despite their assurances, Kirsten hinted at trouble within her marriage in a cryptic Instagram post. She shared a passage from the late Maya Angelou's essay "Home" that seemed directed at Chance's behavior.
Did Chance The Rapper Lose Kirsten Corley After His Provocative Behavior?
The snippet of the essay Kirsten shared read: "Most people don't grow up. It's too damn difficult. What happens is most people get older. That's the truth of it. They honor their credit cards, find parking spaces, and have the nerve to have children but don't grow up."
Kirsten's displeasure at Chance continued in the post's caption, "I hope we all choose to grow up one day." The provocative dance might have been the last straw for the doting mother of two, as the pair were no strangers to separations.
Following the birth of their daughter Kensli, Kirsten filed legal documents to establish Chance as her father and maintain sole custody of the girl. She demanded child support, the expenses she incurred during pregnancy and after delivering their daughter, as well as her attorney fees.
Although Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley bounced back from their past splits, their legal settlement showcases their willingness to end their ties for good.
