Stephen "tWitch" Boss's widow, Allison Holker, has detailed her reason for writing a memoir and opening up about his drug addiction and past sexual abuse.
Recently, Holker granted an interview where she revealed how she found out about tWitch's drug addiction after discovering several drugs in his shoe box.
However, she faced backlash from the late pro dancer's family and many others, who felt her revelations were unnecessary.
Allison Holker Pens Emotional Message To tWitch's Family And Fans
On Wednesday, Holker shared a message on her Instagram Stories detailing her reason for writing a memoir.
She wrote, "To fans of Stephen and our family and friends, I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people."
Holker explained that she "never really knew what happened" and would never know even as she tries to "put the pieces together."
The dancer hoped that those who decide to read her book would see that her "intention is to celebrate the love and life" she shared with her late husband and their three kids, Weslie, 16, Maddox, 8, and Zaia, 5, "and also the more complex aspects" of their lives.
The mother of three added, "I hope that by sharing our full story maybe I can help someone else who might see themselves or a loved one in Stephen. In sharing I hope that maybe they can catch some [of] the red flags that I missed before it's too late."
Allison Holker Says Proceeds From Her Book Will Go To Her Mental Health Foundation
Holker further revealed that she had spent the last two years speaking to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the Salomon Family Foundation, and the Defensive Line Foundation to "better educate" herself on mental health issues so she can "share warning signs with others."
She wrote, "All of my proceeds from this book are going to fund the mental health focused foundation I started in Stephen's honor, Move with Kindness."
Holker hoped that no one would lose another loved one to suicide.
She concluded, "I believe that if Stephen were able to choose, he would choose to have his story told if it meant saving even one life. Much love to all those who have supported our family these many years."
Allison Holker Receives Backlash For Her Interview
After PEOPLE Magazine published its interview with Holker, several people slammed her on social media.
"The Real Housewives of Potomac" alum Candiace Dillard was among the first to do so, calling Holker out on X and questioning her decision to reveal so much about her late husband and not protecting his legacy or their kids.
Dillard also wondered why Holker didn't go to a Black-owned news outlet with her revelations, as they would have handled the tragic story with better care.
Meanwhile, tWitch's cousin, Darielle, slammed Holker in a post on X for tarnishing his legacy, making his family sign an NDA before attending his funeral and not allowing them to see his children.
Meanwhile, Courtney Ann Platt, a former contestant on "So You Think You Can Dance," publicly criticized Holker, describing her memoir as "tacky, classless, and opportunistic." She also called Holker a "bulldozer."
tWitch's brother, Dré Rose, also made a statement where he expressed disappointment over a "disturbing lack of communication" between Holker and her late husband's family.
Rose stated, "We have noticed a disturbing lack of communication and inclusion concerning the children’s activities and well-being. It’s disheartening that their interactions with their grandmother, and the wider family, have been noticeably limited."
Holker Responds To Backlash
Holker didn't respond to Dillard, Darielle, Platt, or Rose's comments. However, when a fellow dancer, Kelly Gibson, expressed her sadness over the situation, she replied to her comment.
Gibson commented on a PEOPLE Magazine Instagram post, directing her criticism at Holker: "This whole thing made me sad. He's gone. Why tear apart his name? This paycheck was not worth disgracing his name."
Holker replied, "I’ll always love you. Just trying to help people feel safe to ask for help and support."
Since the backlash began, the 36-year-old has also reposted supportive messages from fans and mental health advocates on her Instagram Story.
Holker's Revelations About tWitch
During her interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Holker shared that she discovered a "cornucopia" of drugs and "other substances" hidden inside tWitch's shoeboxes while cleaning out his closet in preparation for his funeral.
She also revealed that she discovered tWitch was sexually abused by a male figure during his childhood.
Holker, whose memoir, "This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light," will be released on February 4, hoped she would help others in similar situations by sharing tWitch's struggles.
